Talk of resting players is crazy.....  a win here will mean a final vs Geelong at the MCG, a loss will possibly mean playing GWS again up in Sydney with the confidence they will take out of just having rolled us 12 or so days earlier and with Toby Greene and others coming back.

We must hit this game at full steam.  The season aint over yet!

Exactly!  I really really want to watch the dees play in a final at the G. (though id consider a flight to Sydney it aint the same)

We look so slow once the ball is on the outside, the number of times swans last week and eagles this week just ran it up the wing with out us getting a hand on it is infuriating. Don’t know who we have to fit that bill but we need pace in the middle badly

no change

We need to beat GWS so we can play the Cats at the G, or would you prefer to play GWS again at their home ground in an elimination final?

Its just to make way for a fit viney its Tyson that would go.

Viney if fit will come in for Spargo...

With that massive home crowd they will draw...only joking 'Red'..

It would be justice to knock the Cats out of the finals.

Tyson is playing to his 2014 form. Absolute top shelf.

Not sure if that is completely correct, but he is playing well and getting a lot of contested ball. He has well and truly earned his spot.

Maybe one change and give Spargo a  rest needs it to freshen up. Bring in Garlett  he might be the X factor.

I have a feeling Viney will play his first final. Nothing to lose and all to gain. He will take that chance if  foot feels ok.

Not for GWS, but I'd be getting Joel Smith back in ASAP so we can move Fritsch back up the field (wing/forward) where he can do more damage. He's handy as a sweeper/loose man across the back line, but isn't strong/experienced enough to be playing as a one-on-one defender - Exhibit A being that mark that LeCras took on him.

With finals looming though, none of Hannan, Kent or VDB would want to put in a dud game next week.

Sure, but who do you bring in? Apart from JKH who's not much of an upgrade on Spargo in any case, cupboard is pretty bare at Casey.

I rate Garlett over Spargo, but I can't see how we'll now choose Jeff after we dropped him for round 22. By all reports Garlett put in a stinker at Casey, while Spargo was better than in the Sydney game.

Hibberd is a worry. Who's left? I don't rate Wagner very highly, but he's the next man in and I reckon we need Hibberd for finals, so if he needs the two weeks off we've got to give it to him.

I'd like to see Bugg given one run before finals. I dunno if Viney will play again this year, and noone else jumps out from Casey.

The big ifs are guys like Weed and Spargo. Spargo since he didn't do a whole lot, and Weed as he might not be the matchup Goody wants.

Man. The week off before finals, the media, the fact our season extends by a fortnight at least. What an incredible time to be a demons supporter.

Is Viney running on solid ground yet?

Last I heard he was only on a treadmill, but that was a couple of weeks back... anyone know is he’s progressed?

Forget Garlett he wouldn't have kicked that Kent goal when the pressure was on he just wants the goal out the back & no contact - rather have Bugg as a pest at least he gives 100%.

Absolutely no chance of a suspension for Oscar.
AVB is a chance for a week for his errant elbow to the head o (I think?) Rioli. No chance of a penalty for the tunnelling/spoiling incident. Barely even a free kick that one.

Never ever forget that Christian was a Collingwood player, and that he has been all over the place re his inconsistency this year, and that we will be perhaps threatening the AFL’s pet project’s top 4 position, so

a week for each of them

Totallly unjust, but that is the AFL.

There is a break before finals, don’t rest anyone.  We need to finish as high up as possible to play a home final.

The club would appeal if Oscar was to get suspended.

I think Vanders gets 1 week and Hibberd gets a 2 week rest. Wagner in for Hibbo, no idea who comes in for Vanders, not Garlett by the sounds of the VFL report.

I don't think any of the 2 will be looked at l can't see any wrong doing as the game was a mini final hard fought and the Demons stood up when it counted. IMO they will be fine Mono and not intentional. Keep fingers crossed.

Exactly. No if and buts, the GWS game winner gets 5th spot and home final.

Huge upside if Dees get up.

Keep going hard, maybe excepting Hibberd who is mandatory for first final. No other changes after yesterdays heroics.

Having seen Garlett against the swans he's done for the year if Goodwin is consistent.

Spargo stays in for the experience and Tyson is a lock. He's been great on the inside - set up first goal yesterday.

We do lack leg speed, but what you are referring to is often a result of having too many players running forward of the ball because we always look to play-on.

If we actually stop, prop and kick our way forward (instead of just playing on and handballing at every opportunity) we would be far less likely to give up these loose goals out the back.

spargo on thin ice, possibly replaced by garlett or bugg

jack viney, please get your bloody foot right for september...

I very much doubt that Hibbo will be an out.  If he had any sign of a hammy niggle, there's no way they would have risked sending him back out yesterday.  Besides, I'm sure Goody said in his presser that it was cramp, caused by playing his first game for a month in a pretty warm temperature.

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
