They had Kennedy, Gaff, NikNat and then Darling out - probably 4 of their 5 best players - yet we almost let them kick over 100 points. Now that we've made finals, I think the psychology of this will really enable us to take that next step. We had VIney, Lever and Hogan out, and Hibberd was at times running around on one leg - that's four of our 10 best players - yet we still scored 108 in the heat on the road against the 2nd best side in the competition. Relax a bit. 7 hours ago, america de cali said: Great work by the back six to only allow 8 marks inside 50 for WC. Agreed (obviously no Kennedy and no Darling helps with that of course). There was a point when Vardy looked like he was going to start to become a problem for Oscar but to Oscar's, and the team's, credit that didn't happen. 10 Quote

Flaubert said: Now that I'm a little more coherent than I might have been last night (I had a few adult beverages but can go out for a run and go to work), it's time to reflect. Lessons were learned. That was the most gratifying thing from yesterday. We played on at every opportunity, but 'opportunity' was the operative word. we knew when it was time to kick down the line and when it was time to not take the running option. Admittedly, those times weren't for the bulk of the game but the fact that they were a feature of our play was a sign of increasing maturity. How much we missed Melksham was clear yesterday. Clean ball delivery going forward was clearly an issue against the Swans and he bought it in spades. Teamed up with AVB, they make a good pair of small forward playmakers. This is a structure we should look to maintain next year even with Jesse back. We look much more fluid going forward with those two in. How about those Eagle supporters? It's rare I have ever seen a game where every quarter is followed by raucous booing. You would have thought the umpires were calling John the Indian bookmaker mid match given their reactions. Anyway, while a win going into September would help, I look forward to next week as the drought is over. Since we last played finals, I've lived in 3 countries, finished a Masters degree, gotten married and had 5 different jobs. As Chris Jericho might say 'Drink it in, maaaan...' 1 Quote

So it's possible we slip to 8th, which would lead to a repeat game against GWS at Spotless (or 100,000 going to the G if Fremantle can beat Collingwood). Nope, that won't do it. Nor will that. Pretty sure this won't either. Port Adelaide is currently +148 in points for/against. We're +505. So that's a 357 point "buffer" we have on them. I think that means, if I'm doing this right, that it's something like 175-point margins in both games. Phew !!!! Major MFCSS going on Quote
bjDee 1,249 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 On holidays in Hawaii and couldn’t get the game or even score updates last night. So I’m now poolside, working up a sweat drinking birthday beers, and soaking up ALL the great good news comments on DLand. Well done boys! Such a great relief to be in the finals at last! Get on a roll now lads for the next 4 games!! 4 1 Quote
Graeme Yeats' Mullet 6,792 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 I can't put my finger on it.... But, there is a subtle change in tone on this forum compared with last Monday. Any thoughts? 7 8 Quote
Engorged Onion 10,226 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 I’m abroad at the moment so can only access the highlights. who played well from observations - OMAC, Jetta and Oliver seemed to bob up a lot in highlightts how good was Oliver’s roving to Gawn and his 180 spin between to eagles whilst collecting the ball to dump it in the f50 then get the follow up which resulted in a goal. Kid is class 2 1 Quote

deanox 10,070 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Does anyone think this might be artificially inflated due to whiplash from the OMac tackle? 3 2 Quote

sue 9,277 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 WCE supporters reaction to the umpiring is entirely reasonable. If you are used to getting twice as many frees as the opponents, then on the rare occasion when it doesn't happen it is clear that brown paper bags have been exchanged. 2 2 Quote
Robbie57 2,042 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 I think one of the biggest steps yesterday was Goody showed some in game coaching skill. When Hibberd came off they were prepared to send TMac back for a while. 3 Quote

I think we got lucky a cpl of times and they got lucky a couple times. Feel the umps, all in all, we’re pretty good and did well to resist the crowd. 2 Quote

From the commentary I believe he also made McGovern accountable by having Melksham play as a defensive forward unlike Aliir the previous week 3 Quote
