Gawn on SEN (15/8)

For whatever you might think of Bob Murphy, he's great on radio (and telly, presumably).

I like Gawn's communication and how he comes across (a lot) but, and pardon the skepticism, it does not feel like the playing group seem all that concerned about the challenge ahead. I suppose it turns on your view of who Max is really talking to in these things (not the fans, I presume).

Sounds like Pedersen's papers are stamped and it's the Weid.

I just listened to the broadcast only because of your comments and are mystified as how you can state that it seems like the playing group are not all that concerned with the challenge ahead, you must of been listening to something else.

Second this. I can't figure out how a statement like that could be inferred from this interview.

100 times this season a team has had a plus 10 inside 50 counter this year. 84 times the team with more inside 50's have won, 1 draw and 15 defeats. Melbourne have lost 5 games this season with 10+ inside 50's.

If Melbourne miss the 8 they will officaly be the worst best team in AFL history.

Recon we have missed Melksham big time last week.  I know he has probably been in the team for those 5 losses with +10, but he is both one of our best users and compeditors entering inside 50 and a real loss to a team that seems to struggle so much in this area.

No doubt.

Melksham plays this Sunday we are a big chance.

Without him, i doubt it

Max said he thought the Weid might get a call up to replace Hogan

Lewis said the same thing on Fox last night IIRC

Disappointed Gawn was talking whilst being interviewed on the radio.

CB we have had a season of talk from players and coach about everything you can imagine and still they cannot win a game against anyone of note.

I am over the talk.

Can they please beat the WCE's on the weekend. That action is all I am interested in.

I will second that.

Also Inside Melbourne. Maybe they're just cool, calm, collected.

It doesn't matter what I really think anyway, just a harmless opinion.

They're not allowed to do interviews now?

They can do all the interviews they like I am just not interested in them. The only interview I am interested in the one from Gawn after we beat the Eagles the rest is just static to my ears.

Sorry OD, the one I want to hear is Jones holding up the cup saying we [censored] did it!

He sure did: "He is finally into his own body. He looks strong. He is marking the ball, he is kicking the ball well. I think it's his opportunity to take it."

Sadly that is never going to happen Jones will not be the captain when we win the next flag.

Game is made of 1%  & Doing the preseason camp could have been the difference.

I just think this group really have not left any stone unturned to find success

Then why post in this topic, which is about an interview and comment on it

Bit contradictory

Have to agree.

But why make the same comment every time there is an interview?  Personally I just cringe and reach for the off-button whenever I hear an interview because all that the players can trot out are the standard cliches.

We all know that action is what we want and that there is no correlation between talk and action. But we also know that these days players and coaches have to give interviews or the AFL goes tut tut or worse.  Blame the AFL and media, not the players and ignore threads about interviews (though they are usually more interesting than the interview itself!)

This x1000.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
