That there are only two Tigers and zero Eagles is telling on the value of experience

Agreed. Could even expand that to no Hawks and only two GWS to round out the current, and likely final, top 4.

And not sure of where the cut off falls but Jake Lever is also only 22.

To be eligible for selection, players must be aged 22 years and under for the entirety of the season, including the finals series.

So as IDee pointed out why isn't Lever there who turned 22 in March? He was in the AA squad last year after all....

lever was robbed; presumably ineligible thru lti?

that midfield is stacked; not just some of the best afl players under 22, but some of the best players in the afl in zerrett, oliver, heeney, bont and mclean

edit: someone more knowledgeable than i pointed out that lever turned 22 on march 5 - missed cut-off by a three week period...which makes it even more baffling that bont, who turned 22 last november, is in the list

I think the nominations are based on the player's output during the 2018 season: an All Australian team for under 22 year olds you might say. As such, it would make sense that Lever would miss out as he hasn't played half the season. I think Hogan was young enough last year but didn't get nominated due to being injured.

BAYLEY Fritsch, Alex Neal-Bullen, Angus Brayshaw, James Harmes, Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca have all been named in the 40-man 22Under22 squad selected by the AFL Players Association.

With six players selected in the squad, Melbourne has the most of any team in the league this season.

Fans can now visit 22under22.com.au to cast their vote, before the final team is revealed at the AFL Players’ MVP Awards on Thursday, August 30.

I'm surprised that the optimists on here haven't picked up on this to make a serious point to the wrist-slashers. Our almost entire core midfield is on that list. Yes, we will struggle to control the flow of games at times and slip under pressure. Yes, our future is incredibly bright.

While I don’t think James Harmes will make the final 22  (but you never know), this nomination certainly recognises the sheer dedication this kid has put into his game since being elevated off the rookie list.

Maybe not A grade but certainly a very solid B to B+.

ANB haters gonna hate this.

Yep. I do. A VFL player bluffing his way through through the AFL.

Heeney on the bench? Definite starter for mine, the guy should be named right behind Andrews, alone in the square.

If Vince and Lewis were to retire at season's end we'd probably be last on that list next year

Interesting. All our players on the list are midfielders. No key position players.

Yes, but Oscar, Lever, Hogan are only a year or two ahead of that group. And Gawn is still very "young" for a ruck.

Equally though, I think it says something about the time it takes for KP's to develop.

This, a thousand times this. THIS is why we lose matches we "should" win, and why teams like Richmond don't.

We are still 2-3 years away from being a full blown powerhouse, mark my words, our squad will win at least 2 flags in the next 6-8 years
