It took me until half way through Sunday's game, but I have finally accepted we are not going to do any damage this year.

Hopefully we can sneak into finals, get a final or 2 of experience and then get everyone back fit and firing for next year.

    Don't go too hard on Hoges. He has talent. Just doesn't mind a sook every now and then. (see early Jack Riewoldt).

    We have to get better at crisis moments. Flick a switch when we are in danger that finds a new level, not drops down to sleep mode.

    Cats, Hawks, Tiges all won flags because they got good at wartime moments, and finding a way to get a job done.

    I guess that's the kind of thing you learn at boot camp.

    Report suggests they got the injury early, won't require surgery and expect him to be back for the 2019 season .. So realistically he will only miss 2 more games.

    Jesse hasn’t been 100% for weeks. TMac owns the 50 metre arc now

    i feel very sorry for Hogan, but maybe the Fwd line will function better now. Can’t carry injured players.

    Nasher, something is causing this, stress fractures in feet are rare but we seem to have a number of these, we have 3 out now.  To me it is foot wear, surface and training loads that cause these types of injuries.

    No I'm with you there. My comment was to the original poster who claimed Hogan was done for the season before any announcements had been made, which unfortunately now we know to be the case :(

    I think our big opportunity was on Sunday. Not being able to beat Sydney on the G with Buddy being contained and them being 2 down on the bench was a killer. Can’t see us recovering from there.

    Yep he was great on the weekend, with his 10 possies and 4 turnovers and nearly getting Jesse killed, with an easy pass which set up Mark of the Year to his opponent. It was a similar game to his other one earlier in the year.

    It is extremely depressing and mentally exhausting supporting this club. Not to mention financially draining. Sigh.

    This has me thinking, bb...I really think it might be

    So many players go down with feet problems in the AFL, is it time to think outside the box and be creative about preaseason?

    What about two weeks' hard running in the northern hemisphere? Grounds that are safe, but have plenty of give in them?

    Then, on return, preseason focus is on structures, skills and playing out scenarios

    I think I'm warming to my own idea

    They do share the same training ground, not that I know that is the cause.

    Agree Sydney are the weakest team we play in the last 3, but reckon this is the game we are most likely to win. We play better everywhere else to the G because the grounds are narrower and in the case of Perth Stadium also shorter.

    Actually Perth ground 4 metres longer, but no big deal.

    Yes, I understand the concern over the pattern of these injuries. It’s a worry and no doubt there’s some common root cause. It’s the second half of your post that I’m talking about - where you’ve arrived at the common root cause without any additional analysis other than the problem statement. It’s an absurd logic jump.

    This hurts, but it's not season ending.  Weideman may get his chance here, or we throw Pedersen forward if Kennedy doesn't play.

    We won over there last season without him and we also had Gawn just returning from a long lay off, while they were pretty much full strength at the time.  If we get both Hibberd and Melksham back then it off sets the loss a little and we are still every chance of knocking them off.

    Hopefully Hoges can recuperate now and get himself ready for a big tilt in 2019.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

      It’s game day and the Demons are chasing a fourth straight win as we take on the high flying Hawks at the G. After decades of being tormented by the Hawks the Dees will be keen to extend their 7 year dominance over Hawthorn.

    • NON-MFC: Round 09

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
