Looked to do his hamstring late in the 3rd term, however spotted him on the bench running lines and trying to get back on, but looked to get ordered out of the game by the coaches. Think/hope it was only a strain or bad cramp and we'll see him back next week or the week after.

Mitch King: Competed ok, but I'm still yet to see anything from him that makes me think he'll make it. To make matters worse, he then either done a MCL or Meniscus Injury to end his day, potentially season and potentially Melbourne career.

Harrison Petty: Hasn't quite hit the heights of his early season form since his AFL debut, but he defended dourly and played his role in a strong defensive unit.

Dion Johnston: I've liked his move to defence and he played another solid game. Think Nev's mentorship is paying off and a new 1 year deal should be put on the table for Dion.

Tim Smith: Not a huge game for the Bull. He competed as he always does and played as the main ruck after King went off. Like many on our list today, played his role without having a huge day himself.

Pat McKenna: Barely noticed him in the first half, but he worked his way into the game in the 2nd kicking a goal. Given the injuries he's had to overcome, it's great that he's just out there playing again. 1 year deal for me, so Guy Walker has someone to bowl to in the nets.

Josh Wagner: Controlled things across half back and was assured with his ball use and always seemed to have time & space.

Declan Keilty: After Pedersen I thought he was the best of the Melbourne players. Kicked a few, took some strong marks and provided a real target. Has had a great year at VFL level and unlucky not to have received a senior opportunity. He's developing well!

Lachlan Filipovic: Gone for mine. Even when King went off, it was Smith & Weideman who were asked to compete in the ruck. Limited impact and doesn't get involved enough.

Thought I should add, that after Pedersen I thought the next three best were all Casey listed players in Jay Lockhart, Corey Wagner & Cory Machaya. Lockhart in particular is someone we should look to draft. Nice kick, good pace and run, exactly the type we could do with. Watch this space!

Starting to think the same thing about Filipovic with Bradtke coming onto the list there really is no room for him. King will stay on the list IMO.

Unfortunately for him Frost has taken his chance so it doesn't look like Keilty will be getting a game anytime soon.

Hard to say WD. If he is picked up, I expect it will be as a rookie. He shows all the necessary tools. He spreads well from stoppages, uses it pretty well, can win his own ball and as today showed he can hit the score board.

Good article on the Melbourne (Casey Demons section) about him. Rawlings speaks highly of him and reckons he belongs on an AFL list http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2018-06-26/vfl-corey-wagners-afl-journey

His draw back is probably similr to Tyson, where can can probably only play as a midfielder. But given he was in the Brisbane Lions academy, got drafter by North and played 8 senior games in his first 2 years, there's obviously something there.

I'm a big advocate for rookie listing him, as I see more upside with him then I do say Maynard. However, if we were to only draft 1 player out of Casey this year, then it should be Lockyear IMO. See a lot of Mark Baguley in him (drafter from Frankston VFL).

Oh and as for King, if we keep either of our young ruckmen I expect it would be King, however I also know that if Max were to get injured next year that King wouldn't be ready to come in for him. I think we may end of trading say our 4th Round Pick for a ruckman whose currently third in line at their club, but would be physically ready to play. Think Tom Campbell from the Bulldogs or Lewis Pierce at St Kilda.

Some good figures for the Casey boys. Cory Wagner and Jay Lockwood have been consistent and on the improve  - will figure in draft considerations later in the year.

Flipper is a worry. 7 points for the whole game. Gorne I would think.

Someone said the other day he was the in form key forward in the VFL the last month, and looks like he had another nice outing.   Developing well.  2019 will be his year.

We have a premiership side on our hands and I wouldn't count out our senior side doing the double either.

I think we are well stocked with Hibberd, Joel Smith, Lever and Hunt for medium sized defenders with a variety of skill sets to replace Vince. Unfortunately all 4 are injured! Josh Wagner and Pat McKenna both options as well.

What we do need is at least 1 hard running and clean ball using flanker to replace Lewis and I'd love to give Lockhart a chance. Worried that he's playing himself above a 3rd round selection though.

What's the chance someone else will pick him up first though?

If he's looking the goods, I'd say pretty high chance someone else will beat us to him.  The performances of Kelly for Geelong and Bailey Fritsch would have good mature players in the VFL pretty well on many clubs recruiting radars.  It's a pitty in a way that I don't think we get any first dibs at him for being a Casey player, but then I think that's also for the best as otherwise all the power AFL teams would start loading their VFL teams with talent for future drafting and further corrupt the whole draft/salery cap system.

MOVING FORWARD by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons moved another step closer to top spot on the ladder with a comprehensive 91-point victory over the Northern Blues at Casey Fields on Sunday.

The Demons won the toss, kicked with the advantage of the strong northerly breeze and used it to the utmost benefit as goal after goal flowed with regularity from Sam Weideman within the first minute. By the time the siren blared to end the first term, the home side almost nine goals in front. The Blues regrouped after the break and opened their account early in the second quarter but the Demons fought back and went almost goal for goal till the main break so that their opponent had barely made any inroads.

Casey piled on the goals in the early part of the third term but the Blues tightened their game midway through the quarter and played their best football to keep the Demon lead to 75 points at three quarter time. The home side maintained control despite kicking against the breeze in the final term adding four goals to one to run out 15 goal winners.

One of the highlights of the game from the perspective of the Casey Demons was the contribution of the VFL listed contingent. Former Kangaroo Corey Wagner was outstanding picking up 26 disposals, executing 10 tackles and booting 4 goals 3 to be clearly best on ground. Not far behind was former Tasmanian Jay Lockhart who hasn’t missed a beat playing all 15 games since coming to the club at the beginning of the year. He picked up 25 touches, eight tackles and kicked two goals. Lively Cory Machaya is in his third season at the club but this year, he is fit, healthy and firing. He played his best game yet against Northern Blues racking up 27 disposals along with his two goals. Former AFL-listed Demon Mitch White was in sublime form on comeback from injury, scoring three goals.

Casey was well served by veteran Cam Pedersen who picked up 24 possessions and marked everything that came his way when in defence and also chipped in with a goal. He had great support from Declan Keilty who was also excellent whether in attack or defence while

Sam Weideman also performed strongly with early goals and then exerting himself in the ruck when Mitch King went down with what appeared to be a knee injury. Tim Smith was also good chipping in to help out at the ruck contests.

Whilst not outstanding, Jayden Hunt did enough in his comeback game from injury to raise hopes of an imminent return to the Melbourne team with another week or two at this level. Oskar Baker was full of run until an injury in the third quarter ended his day and Mitch Hannan did well, particularly early in the day.

The team sits in second place to Richmond, with 11 wins on end and a game in hand over the Tigers who have a bye coming up in a fortnight. Casey is at home next Saturday to 11th placed Sandringham.

These are impressive players who must be worked through the senior list in 2019. We know Pedo but the others need exposure asap.

Who would be likely to replace Smith? Wagner?

Asked this in the changes thread but if there was anyone who was there can they answer the following:

Haven't seen Casey play - just follow the scores on here - but for those who do, and for those wanting Pedersen to come in, can I ask what position has he been played in the backline, a pure key defender or more an intercepting 3rd tall? There's no point bringing him in to play as a key tall because I don't think he's in front of either OMac or Frost and neither of them are true intercepting players. 

We do need a defender who can read the play and get in front of the ball coming into the def 50, I've thought Smith's last couple of weeks have been much better at this, and was partly the reason why Adelaide's key bigs only scored 1 goal between them. So if Peds hasn't been doing this, then there's no point in him coming in, we'd be better with Wagner or even Hunt and give them that role.
