Play like we did early last week but lower our eyes and kick to a player instead of banging it in long and we win. Don’t and we lose.

 

Reading all the negative posts would think we lost by 10 goals at home to a bottom team last week.

Same team fronting up again and while I don’t feel particularly confident, they will at least give it a crack, and hopefully hang on this week.

Ther'es a bit to commend here.. .If not for the whole game definitely at times.  @Binman and I were waxing in another thread and the idea of moving Hogan to the half back was  brooched. He often gets double teamed..hes effectively useless in the game as a result.  Our forward line also becomes too busy  ..what with all their defenders and our 'odd at times' structure. I agree move Jesse down back.. If nothing else a defender ( in most probability ) will have to go with him..  The team sheet of the opposition suddenly looks a big problem.

By all means REST Ollie in the square.. Again this upsets opposition rotations...does the player assigned Clarry go with him?  

Im not a great fan of all of these rotations. I know the argument is to rest/manage players...but I cant help but feel many coaches are buying needlessly into the new coaching , afl led groupthink.   In this game you need an edge. Maybe that edge is rotating less and resting playing in a position thay can also play...I know...it's maverick....its sooooo...ooooh i dont know...last century !!

Less is more...so they say...but we love to crown a contest. Problem is we often crowd ourself out of possession especially in the fwd 50.

How to avoid..wel...if you do actually double team the opponents best fwd...even swapping who the target is if another fires up..then it seems most likely youll have a bit more space somewhere.

I totally agree 1554....time to start coaching like a fox.....we had one of those once....did rather well I recall

I don’t think we will win. Here though is a great opportunity for the club to stand up and give supporters some hope instead of empty promises. Last weeks result could be a real downer and historically that maybe the case. Show us something dees.

So your plan is to take our leading goalkicker and put him at CHB where we already have OMac and Frost, then replace him with our best midfielder against a side with a midfield which includes Sloane, Crouch and Gibbs, whilst Viney sits on the sidelines.

And you implore us to "tackle to hurt", as if that was our problem last week.

not confident, especially travelling to Adelaide and being subjected to corrupt umpiring. 

OMAC due for a big game to redeem himself after a horrendous performance on Hawkins last week. 

it's time for this club to stand up and prove to themselves that they can go deep into September and take a scalp.

I'm not against moving Hogan around the ground if he's struggling to make an impact in the forward line. But we already do this, by throwing him into the middle (often at times when we rest Oliver or Petracca forward). I don't see the need to put him at CHB where he's never played, when we've already got tall defenders down there who don't have the ability to play anywhere else.

I also would prefer we improve the way we deliver the ball into our forward line so that either Hogan's not always being double/triple teamed, or that we're scoring regardless (i.e. if he's taking an extra defender and that lets TMac off the chain, that may well benefit the team).

In other words, I don't agree with bobby1554's plan to permanently play our best midfielder as a forward and our best forward as a defender without replacements for either and without a play for what that does to the backline.

The problem with our key defensive structures has been quite evident since Lever went down. We have tried and failed a number of options without much success, especially against the better teams. Adelaide will again exploit this tonight, as they will our constant barrage into F50 of long bombs to Hogan. It will be Port Adelaide all over again. I suppose we will know by around 10pm tonight. And the only reason I suggested playing Oliver forward was that I doubt he will be 100 percent fit

I agree with the long bomb problem. But I don't agree that the solution is to take Hogan out and put him at CHB where he's never played.

We still need to markedly improve how we move the ball inside 50 and how we generate scoring shots.

If Oliver's not 100% fit he shouldn't play.

Im not suggesting permanently putting hogan in defence..I AM suggesting taking him away from the forward 50 and putting him down the half back line for a spell or two to break up the defensive tag on him. it's not really that hard to comprehend.

To do nothing just allows the opposition to command the game and thats exactly whats happening against better stronger more organised defensive teams.

Hogan is not a midfielder...but could be an interesting addition to a rebounding hbl....for spells.

The only time Hogan goes to town is against shlt teams ...or teams well down on form. Hogan like the the whole team gets stymied  when playing oppositions who actually know what they are doing.

I’d like to see Hogan’s heatmap before the bye, he was accumulating lots of ball around half back also

I think we'll start slow but then thump them tbh.

Your post was so inspiring, Demons11, that after zero thought, because I was not going to attend the match, I am heading off in 5 minutes to the train station to get to the Adelaide Oval relatively early, have a beer, get a seat and watch the Dees hopefully anihilate the overconfident Crows.

I want to respect our selected side. As such, I don't wish to name the player l believe should not be playing (though many may speculate on his identity). l believe we are starting the game 1 man short and we will pay for it. 

The Crows are an experienced outfit with lots of mature bodies and talent. We are not at that level yet, although on our way. 

Much as l would like to e entertain the thought that we could win, l cannot.

l am expecting a flogging from a genuine AFL contender, on the rise after a debilitating run of injuries and at their home deck. ?
