Both absolutely fantastic additions to this club.

Super shrewd recruiting.

I hope to see both of them lift the Cup sometime soon in the red and the blue.

Jake has speed to burn knows where the goals are and has a thumping kick. However l believe that he will be one of many that will help us go deep into the Finals in the not to distant future.   Well done Jake on your 150th Afl games.  Have a great game and hope that the Bomber supporters are watching and wondering why you are a better player at the Demons.   Go Dees!

His long, low, flat kicks are a delight to watch.

Terrific player with great skills. My only (minor) knock is his one on one form where he can try too much to do the body thing rather than just go straight for the ball.

Great first goal last week. Beautiful clean pick up and dribble kick on his wrong side.

Also very happy that the Bomber wing nuts who used to jump down his throat regularly must now be grinding their teeth at what a weapon he is..for us!

Congrats to him on 150 games!

I was one of the few on here who defended him in his early days at the club. He's always had talent to burn, but for some reason people always seem to sink the boot in and use him as a whipping boy. Might be due to having a bit of a punchable head :P He just needed a bit of time to settle into a new environment and to be played in a suitable position.

It's been good to watch him flourish up forward. He played his best footy at Essendon on the half forward flank rotating through the midfield, so it was strange to see him rotting away in the back pocket for a bit there where his strengths weren't being utilised. I'm glad the coaches shifted him, as we've now seen what he's capable of. Those long flat kicks are a delight to watch then he strikes them. Hopefully he becomes a bit more selfish and launches a few more of those 50 metre goals the next few weeks! He's become a barometer and leader out there for us, and if we're to head into September I feel he will be a big part of that.

Lot of love for two self made (for us) players, who DON'T take backward steps.?

I wasn’t at all happy when 2 banned players were recruited.

But they have served us well without putting a foot wrong.

I will cop that. May they play September...

he first impressed me at some of his early training sessions at gosch's.. i thought he'd just be a feisty mid. he has surprised, bringing leadership to our relatively young group & has impressed me with his laser kicks to the other forwards and vision. i just wish he was more consistent. good on him!

Def matured, I remember him being a yappy, niggly player at the druggies. Not like that as much with us which is a good step in the right direction.

His marking on the weekend stood out to me. Hadn't seen him clunk them that well this season but he really committed and took some beauties on the lead and contested. Will need more of this going forward.

Nicely said.

Great article. I didn’t know Hibberd and Melksham were such close mates before they came. Obviously they’re grown adults, but still being able to walk in to the club together would have taken the edge off the nerves.

Because I’ve become a spiteful footy supporter, my favourite part about all this was that Melksham was Watts-level (or even greater) whipping boy at Essendon. The fact that he’s come here and become an important member of the team and even pretty popular among the fans gives me great morbid pleasure. Suck it, Essendon. Hope it stings.

When he’s going he’s an such enjoyable player to watch: a reliable contest winner, gets the ball to boot very quickly, and is an absolutely fantastic kick. He won’t always fire which is probably what separates him from the very best, but no doubt he’s an asset to the club.

Congrats Jake on the 150!

The best part of the melksham trade was i was unhappy paying pick 25. But if memory serves i think josh dunkly went that pick to the bulldogs and no player after that i would swap for melksham. We got that right in hindsight.

Well we can develop players - without the aid of drugs at that

Taking players from other clubs who were possibly high draft picks or not, but who didn’t produce their best at the club who drafted them, has been successful many times. Often more so than drafting. A couple of reasons for this could be that you have seen them against senior players and you might know of a reason why they haven’t performed to their ability, like injury or homesickness for example.

I like the way they play against TWSNBN. Used to love playing against the old sides especially the crumby (La di da) ones.........

No. I don’t like convicted drug cheats in my team, but i will cop it

He became a dad in the last couple of years, which I think helped him to focus and mature.

Hope he has another 100 games for us

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
