Giants are in serious cap trouble

Yep. Best suggestion yet. Whitfield fills our biggest need. I don't think Shiel will leave them either, so they will remain in cap trouble. We don't have the picks though. The only plausible scenario is if Hogan is on the table. That would seem unlikely. Hogan seems settledย  in at MFC according to the media.

Just you think it's safe to come out, along comes a thread on Gary Rohan.

They are either joking or have no idea.

Port will listen to offers for Wingard becuase they believe he will leave as free agent in search of a new challenge.

Ring em up and remind themย we gave em Toumpas, Watts and Trengove so it's only fair we get Wingard in return. [censored] it throw in a second rounder that they can use on finding some more top talent from other clubs.

Go hard for Whitfield now. Another failed year for them. We're hopefully on the up and challenging for the next few years now. We play our home games at the MCG and have the only list that rivals GWS', and Whitfield is exactly the sort of player we lack. When Lewis goes at the end of 2019, Whitfield will be a great replacement off half back. We could play Whitfield on a wing or off half back, releasing Salem and/or Fritsch. I think Lever will allow Fritsch to play further up the ground anyway, but Whitfield's ball use and transition running would be the perfect addition to our cake.

He's contracted and we have bugger all draft picks, nor player's of worth that we would consider trading.

FA is our best bet for the next few years, imo.

Think we'd be in serious cap trouble too if we got him! He's a 800-900k minimum player. Every club in the league would want Whitfield. Absolute gun.

Yes, and the club has indicated it has cap space for a big fish

Based on our offer to GAFF Iโ€™d say we can make a fair offer to Whitfield without too much issue. The challenge would be how do we get him I a trade??ย

If we put in a half decent performance on Saturday, then we will have players banging down the door to play at Melbourne. We won't have to sound them out, they will sound us out.ย

Pretty handy footballerย Mitch Wallis, particularly if he can get his head together

Probably, but performing in Perth will have top players recognising that we areย  a genuine Top 4 side and flag certainty in years to come.ย

I like what they are doing up there. Pick up Neale and Wallis and they would worry a lot of teams next year. Their midfield will go from average to strong.

Who knows really. I've heard rumours about Tyson, Weid, Bugg and Kent all potentially looking at other options.

For me i'd look at trying our best toย getย 2nd and 3rd rounders for Garlett, Kent and Tyson if they want to go and trade the picks up. If the Weid rumours are true then that's your first round pick right there.

Agan i think it would be tough cap space wise because he is already on 800k and every victorian club will be in for him

Problem is that we would only get a third rounder for Kent. He would be worth so much more if he could stay fit. Do we bite the bullet and take the third? I would rather keep him.

This is another weird one. Why top up with players and then trade out one of your more promising players? Surely you would try for another shot at the flag. Completely goes against what they did last year.

No no no. Fake news

Chad Wingard is on his way to Victoria if the rumours are correct.

Can play, would be a very handy acquisition.

Looking for outside class, this guy has it in spades.

...and the bonus for him is he won't have to play against Viney if he picks us.

Wants a long contract on $1m a year.

Won't defend, chase or tackle. No thanks.

Gave me his father any day of the week. Mitch's ok but Steve Wallis was a very good player.

Big news. If Shiels stays Kelly or Scully needs to leave to fix cap issues. Kelly dream alive boys.ย

Why would any club keep scully over Kelly? Scully is gone. I hear he has an ongoing, high inflamedย  wallet injury and would be a liability to any club that picks him though.

Kelly was pushing for an exit and only signed a bumper deal instead of the proposed long term deal. He wants to come home to Melbourne, Scully on the other hand is more being pushed out so GWS can keep their other starsย just like Shiel was.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
