Who do we realistically target for a trade?

What about Tom Nicholls from Gold Coast? I’ve seen him do some good things in the ruck but hasn’t played a game this year due to injuries. I believe he’s OOC this year.

Agree that's the type we should  look at.

Quietly re-signed until end 2019 unfortunately

Why are we so obsessed with speed?  Just because someone has pace doesn't mean we need to instantly recruit them.  Aaron Hall is a prime example - alright, the bloke has pace, but he is the softest, flakiest and one of the most inconsistent footballers in the AFL.  He wouldn't make us a better side.

I agree.  We need players who can play,,,  hard, and with speed.

We do not need speed on its lonesome.

King and Filipovic are absolutely useless, Bradtke is just starting.

They're both Bambi's. at this stage.

But there is signs they are starting to grow.  But they are both a long way off AFL at this stage of development.

Small forward:
Tyson Stengle kicked 6 for Tigers VFL on the weekend. But there's not a heap going around. Draft might be the option here
Wing:
Gaff, Polec the big names. Tom Sheridan is a guy from Freo who's going ok and might be cheap and available

Those 2 positions are the ones I think are the biggest needs. We simply have to add something at those spots. The wing has been patch work all year and Garlett is the only genuine small forward on the list and is nearly done.

Medium backmen:
Think we need to add at least one ready to play general purpose defender to take over the Vince role. This won't be popular but if gets cut from the bombers I'm actually a fan of Matty Dea
Back up ruck:
Hard to convince a back up to come play behind Gawn. The current guys, in particular Mitch King might be worth giving one more year to see if he improves
Midfield depth:
It might be keeping Tyson, getting Maynard back healthy and not bringing in ready made help but if we make some trades we'll want a mature body. The idea of trading Tyson for a top 40 pick and adding Mitch Wallis as a free agent appeals to me

That’s revisionism - at least in Martin’s case. Many were spewing when Neeld traded Martin. He was a good ruckman when he was here, the problem was that he was behind Mark Jamar in the pecking order and he couldn’t play anywhere else. There were also a few personal issues at the club that might have prevented him from staying anyway.

Revisionism? As I said he was pretty ordinary until he was 25. Do you disagree?

Then two good years at Melbourne then at 27 traded to Brisbane (2013) I liked him & thought we should keep him. I reiterate at King/Filipovic age he was very ordinary, that's not revisionism that's what I thought at the time, that's what I think now..

Does anyone see us in need of a second tall defender alongside Omac to free up Lever as a 3rd tall? Or is it a matter of going with what we had pre-ACL and having Frost & Keilty as depth and Petty developing, next year?

Yes I do, 100%.

Dahlhaus let Gus off the leásh. a couple of times yesterday which cost the dogs big time. May be a bit too unaccountable for us. Hîs good play is pretty good though.

perhaps at the right price.

But of course (other than intraclub practice games) he wouldn’t have to contend with Gus ever again ?

Frankly no disgrace to lower ones colours to Gus in his current form.

I have heard Hannebery could be headed our way.

Wouldn’t have to give much up but low risk, high reward if he gets his body right.

Heard from who? First I've heard of this..

That’s why I’m thinking an experienced VFL ruckman, they’d jump at the chance.

If we target a back up ruckman and I don't disagree with the sentiment how do you ever get VFL time into Flip and of course next year -Anstey. Not to mention developing the skills of relief ruckmen such as we have been doing with Weideman.

It was different when we had the development league but that's gone now.

PS: Bradtke not Anstey but at least I had my sports right ?

Anstey? lol. Bradtke?

It's an issue in the VFL for sure, I heard an interview last week where they were talking about this and a club applied to the AFL to have for eg: A Casey ruckmen to play with Port Melbourne (not the exact teams) but they mentioned they would see more of it in the future. Which kind of has its own issues as that player won't be in the clubs system (coaching and development). I personally think we need an AFL reserves league and a seperate VFL league. Maybe the younger guys can develop at VFL before coming up to AFL reserves. Anyway, yes it's an issue.

Many are saying he is 'cooked'.

He hasn't played at his best for a number of years and this year looks terrible. I think they have finally admitted he is injured and have stopped playing him.

The trouble is Dr we need a back up ready now and I agree we should trade for one

If Max misses we are forced to sacrifice T Mac's game  or play Pederson as stop gap.

My point is we dont have a back up ready to go NOW!

We have the best ruck in the competition who loves to ruck all day.  We have two gun KPFs. We have a young third KPF whom we're grooming as a back up ruck but we're can't fit him in. We've shown a reluctance to play a second ruck and have even preferred to pinch hit smalls.

Which AFL ready ruck is stupid enough to come and play at Casey in the hope that we get 4 injured talls?

Anyone who fits that description will be looking to move to aclub where they get more game time, not less.

Its a fair question

I think our priorities are...

Mid sized half back with speed and kicking efficiency

Speedy wing with kicking efficiency

Crumbing pressure fwds

which is why we need a good fwd/2nd-ruck - to give max a chopout and if max injured to take over 1st ruck

in time that might be bradtke or it could be weids. in the short term is there a suitable big man out there who could reasonably hold down a fwd position so we could at least offer game time

Pretend you're deaf as he's the last person we need at the club.  We have enough in and under players.

I might be jumping the gun, but i would be looking for another inside mid.. I think personally Jack Vineys foot is cactus and we just simply can't trust him to get 22 games out of him anymore..

Could Mitch Wallis be an option?

I believe you could be right on the  money Dazzle. If so another inside hard at it could be the answer.

Also Kamdyn Mc intosh seems out of favour at Richmond, could be worth an inquiry!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
