The Clarry Pass

Featured Replies

Where we once had the stab pass we now have the Clarry Pass.

Low, flat, hard, fast, direct, accurate onto the chest, over long distance and performed at full speed.

Others (Salem) can pass the ball perfectly but none with as much authority and class.

The kicks to Neal-Bullen, Garlett and Tracca as well to kick his goal were as attractive and effective as those from the past.

To go with his ball winning ability, hand passing, tackling, running and field kicking, are there any other so far unrevealed sublime skills to come? What a joy to watch.

Would be fantastic if he kicked the ball a little more, as it is as much a weapon as his handballs are.

If he starts to increase his kicking output, he will go to another level ?

Without checking the stats, my impression is that he has recently increased his kick to handball ratio.

He's also quite strong overhead so expect to see this more in the future...plus he's a pretty decent kick on the left.

By far the most complete footballer I have seen at Melbourne (was too young to see Flower mind you).

He is amazing at every aspect of the game. Literally not one thing I would want to improve in him, except obviously have him get 80 touches a game except like the usual 40.

Clarry has a good way to go, yet.

see fritsch, and add about 85% improvement still.

It is not fair to compare anyone with Robbie. He played in a much higher universe to mere mortals.

Clarry and Bails will develop their own games that, we hope, will maximise their own unique talents and abilities.

It's just that Clarry seems to be in a rush.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

The Guy is an absolute magician.

I can’t recall seeing that rare combination of being a hard at it bull ,combined with superb skills and decision making .

A rare find indeed.

You are right but then again playing forward does favour kicking. Handballs still outweigh kicks but it's getting closer to even.

It's interesting to think back. Not long ago 20 possessions by a mid fielder was considered a great game. Then it was 30 and now it's 40. Anyone for 50 !

Ahh so thats what happens when you nail a pick 2, pick 3, pick 4 and a pick 2 (mini draft) and then develop them properly.

Wouldn't say we've nailed Petracca at all yet. The rest look good.

Should be the best player in the comp in 2 years time.  He has an amazing long kick, if he can keep perfecting the short stab passes and get on the score more he will offically be a unstoppable. I have never seen such a combination of skill and toughness

*The above goal should get goal of the week

the goal assist passes were great but i reckon his 40m pass to Brayshaw, members side at Half back to Brayshaw at HF was sublime. in the 4th QTR.

Yaha, Schwartz as well, pre-knee issues along.

Does he have a left foot?

"Gifted"

Jurrah would be up there with Farmer. But think you've nailed it, depends on what exactly you mean by gifted.

Edited by SFebey

To the people the say he should kick more - I don't get it. He makes the best decision on whether to kick or handball 99.9% of the time. Would you rather he kick for the sake of kicking, even if a handball is on and is a better option?

Would you prefer he stop getting contested possessions so he can hang on the outside? His hard ball gets are his greatest strength.

Can't we just be happy about the fact we have a genuine superstar in our team finally!?

I am talking Hall of Fame level talent.   Schwarz was on his way to being the best player in the comp before he did his knee,  Lyon was an incredible player with multiple AA selections and multiple 70+ goal seasons but was always hampered by injury.  Allen Jakovich would have kicked 1000 career goals if he is body wasn't a mess.  Oliver and Robbie speak for themselves.

Neither Jurrah or Farmer are on that level.

You said gifted, that's why I mentioned those two players, perhaps I misunderstood your wording.

Jakovich and Schwarz for me, DS was something special and such a shame he was cruelled by injury.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
