I agree on other closing speed, spoiling, height issues.  I was pushing for Frosty as the next best 'Intercept' option once Lever went down, while many here preferred Joel, months ago on multiple posts.  Amazing how ppl conveniently miss that part and target you on any constructive (warranted) criticism.  Not surprising coming from you though Nasher.  Very quick to jump.

Lolwut? I criticised him for the same things you did - I even said I was against selecting him in the first place for those exact reasons. I do sometimes wonder if I’m speaking the same language as everyone else.

Please read my previous post again and consider whether your response was appropriate and fair in the context. If you think it is, we’ll agree to disagree and leave it at that.

So good the AFL just decided to hand him the Brownlow and Melbourne the premiership on the spot. Season 2018 has been called off.

If Maxy doesn’t win the Brownlow it will be because bloody Clarry got too many votes!

Meh you just tend to take an aspect of what's said and wring it out in a way the writer never intended taking out of context Nash.  In this case for example, focusing on my handball wherever possible focus (as first option) and ignoring the kicking down the line bit to infer he shld never be allowed to kick again ...coaches orders!?  Other than that i agree with all you said ?

And dw, you arent the first nor will you be the last to do that on here i'm sure!

A very good 2nd half that made the week a lot better. I visited Mum in hospital  on the way to the game and she looked a lot better. She is 88 and is recovering from the same injury as the Bont. Thank you to all who passed on best wishes yesterday.  CARN THE DEMONS.

Nice work Ditcha.  Is she a Demon also?

She does not like football,  but wants Melbourne to win for me.

If I may pick up on this ...your quote. ( Not a go at you ;) )

This has to be either Cliche Masterclass.....or Naivete extraordinaire !!

Jones might like to think everyone gives 100% but it's plainly not the case. Some do put in more...some do try more. That just is.

There may be the intention to give all....not always the result.

It's called the human condition.

Don’t agree at all ...they would always give their best but as we always know & for whatever reason ..life ..footy etc doesn’t always mean it works out at 100%

Harmes onto McCrae was the decisive factor IMO.  A handy discovery ahead of the Geelong game next week. If Ablett, Danger or Selwood create damage.

Anyone notice that when we went to a straight 6 on 6 in our forward and backline we then went inside 50 much better. Especially when we won it out of the middle, when we were outnumbered as we were in the first half, they tend to run sideways out of the middle as opposed to straight out when it is one on one.

Browny on Fox made a very good point in that when we go is50 we need to make more of our opportunities if we are going to compete against the top teams and he said it when we stuffed certain goals up which I think was in the last quarter.

Our 3rd quarter dominance came from making the most of almost all of our opportunities. This is what Richmond seem to do in the 4th quarter all the time.

ive been looking for the '5 talking points' from the WB game on the afl site - has anyone stumbled across it? - could you pop a link to me - cannot seem to see it...

My point is simply...you might try...but you might not succeed in giving your best...or 100%

We all have better days than some.No one ever goes to work and gets the very best out of themselves day in day out.

everyone keeps talking about gawn for the brownlow but sorry folks he is only on about 12 votes according to my calculation, Hogan 11 and clarry 10. Mitchell will be streaking the field, excluding the suspended and injured Fyfe.

The AFLCA votes often not a bad mirror for the Charlie.

Max currently leading it...will add to it after this weekend ;)

If he doesn’t win it, I suppose you will come on here and say “ I told you so, how right can one be”.

You need to lighten up a tad.

The idea of a Ruck claiming a Brownlow is gaining momentum... especially among sports media folk. The name Max keeps cropping up in despatches :)

go you good Gawn :)

When was the last time Melbourne had 2 goal Kickers in the top 10 in the AFL?

Its still amazing how many times we create good fwd 50 entries but dont manage to get the goals on the board. If we could improve this we would anielate alot of teams.

God I feel cold just looking at this picture from "Arctic Park".

Sat with the in laws today for wife's bday and had to listen to an exposition on how Grundie is better than Max. Fortunately wife's uncle has a brain and is a Demon and we both laughed .

i thought it was rather outrageous they enjoyed my expansive deck on a glorious winter's day whilst lobbing such ridiculous statements at me. The conversation quietened somewhat as the Pies weagles game progressed

With a solid preseason she should be right next year

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
