According to the Afl (Live Ladder) we finish in 5th position on 126%. I wonder if theyve sent out a memo yet to the umps?

GWS have Port next week, then 3 gimmes in St Kilda, Carlton and Adelaide. I can't reiterate how much we needed Richmond to win that.

Kangas or Sydney is an interesting one. I'm inclined to hope Sydney win as it's in our own power to knock down the Swans. I know they'll be challenging for the top 4 and Kangas for 8th, but in the next two weeks we can ruin the chances of the Cats and Crows too. We can have 4 or 5 teams disposed of as we mount a challenge for higher up on the ladder.

We’ve had a few results in our favour so far this weekend, not only our come-from-behind win, but Geelong, Richmond and Hawthorn’s losses and seeing Essendon being pushed by the Suns.

If North can slog out a win against Sydney and West Coast bring Collingwood back to earth, our quest for Top Four may not be a pipe dream. Icing on the cake if Freo cause an upset against Port. Our destiny is in our hands but yesterday’s Third Quarter has renewed my faith that we can do it!

Sadly, some of our past players might have him on that pre Roos.  Don't want to mention names as they did their best but we consistently handballed in circles and backward to a player under pressure until we turned it over.  Painful.

As an aside, there are so many similarities Bolton to Neeld: lauded as a teacher, talked up by their premiership winning coach, acid tongue when under pressure demoralising players (altho Bolton hides it better behind his childish smile).  Rubbish game plan.  Both clubs shambolic off field with poor player development. And they play 'bruise free' football?

It amazes me how they had a template of what not to do (MFC) yet they have copied it to a T.

Two consecutive 10 goal floggins from bottom 4 clubs and players aren't playing for him.  He will really feel the blowtorch now.  So glad it isn't us anymore.

Ahh but Foxtel advertised the game as the two best "up and coming" young teams. Marketing departments are SO over rated.

I thought Carlscum looked just perfect last night.

Played beautifully too, i thought

Mrs cleaning lady at Carlscum put a brand new pair of very cheap jeans in with the wash and that's what came out. The AFL, as a professional organisation, should never have let them go out and play like that. Go to bed without dinner for being naughty.

Two 8-point games today could really shuffle the top 8 deck.  Pies vs WCE and North vs Syd.

Would love to see the tables turn a bit and have Richmond face an i/state First final, then a Home Semi and potentially an i/state Prelim.  Its the only way to avoid all their finals being at the G.  So barracking for WCE today.

Then hoping Syd win and keep North a game behind us to give us a tiny amount of breathing space now that Cats and Hawks lost this week.

Kennedy and darling back for eagles, while cox a late out for the pies and can still get the eagles for $2.65

In a way I want nth to win so the swans don't go past us and they will knock the cats out of the 8 but then I don't want nth on the same points.

Definitely want west coast to win, just so we don't hear about collingwoods great winning streak and they would be equal 1st and west coast have there forward line back and with no dunn down there they need to take the opportunity. West Coast also need to show they can win away from there home ground.

I dont like WC ... but my hatred of the filth and filth supporters and even filth sympathisers is as pure as any hate can be.

Go Eagles !!!

Not a bad game at the moment. Nic Nat down in the rooms limping badly with some sort of leg issue. Lycett holding his own though against Brodie.

Eagles do some seriously straight kicking

8 goals straight

PS: and f course as I post they kick their first behind

Definitely want a North win personally. A log jam of teams getting stuck behind us is no problem - our fate for protecting our position from them is in our own hands, all we have to do is keep winning. The teams above us coming unstuck gives us more opportunity to move up.

While that is all very positive, I suspect failing to get into the 8 is such a risk to the club that it's wiser to hope that teams below us fail than hope we sneak into the top 4.

Filth v meth coke very entertaining

Nic Nat looks finished for the day

They are saying knee for Nic Nat, doesn’t look good.

Either result from the first two games can help us, but what would really be awesome is Freo upsetting Port.

Huge if Nic Nat had done his other knee. Hope the eagles can hold on. Agree it would be good if freo could upset port later on.

Yes very sad if Nick Nat has done his knee. Still a cracking game to watch.

In terms of results hopefully Sydney can do a job on the Kangas.

Brilliant goal to Rioli. Pies looking vulnerable.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
