This goal kicking situation is bizarre. Is there a gusty wind up there we don’t know of?

McDonald missing basically means we are in for the worst day of goal kicking ever.

Intent is good but we look messy

Goal kicking aside, that was a relatively positive first term.

I think what stood out was the pressure.  Apart from their first goal we worked much better as a defensive unit and stifled any run that players like the Hill brothers, Walters, Matera etc could give them.  Hogan had a ripper first term, Trac worked hard and Stretch has really given us something on a wing.

No doubt our goal kicking needs to see some major improvement for the rest of the evening, but other than that it's been pretty good so far.

Tha ball looks like it is covered in Vaseline- i like that they changed tack and started running it rather than kicking.

Ok now even Tom McDonald is missing. It's panic stations now people.

It's always panic stations for most round here.

Nothing can incite our finals capabilities at this point.

i(g)nite?

The ball is a bar of soap by the looks of it. There’s hardly been a clean possession from anyone. Our defending has been heaps better - they can’t get it out of half back.

This game should already be over though, but of course we lead by the 9 behinds we kicked. If there’s a five minute lapse, Freo kick away.

Come on Melbourne. Bury them so I can bloody relax a bit please.

Means players will be trying to run it in to 30m or 5m... and not even add to the score....

They'll kick a goal before 1/4 time.

I thought for sure Brad Hill would latch on to that one in the goalsquare on quarter time. It must be our night…

Hating the height of the TV camera's. Too low to the ground. Should be much higher for a better view. THIS MUST BE THE LAST GAME AT THIS VENUE. Even more cheering for a Freo goal that a D's goal. Grrrr

Poor kicking is bad football.

That contest annoyed me no end as four... FOUR... players went up against one Freo player, while their smalls almost swooped on the spillage.  Thank goodness for the siren.

Ah. Step out to put 3yo to bed and come back to 2.9

just had an up chuck

would rather freo win 8.2 to 2.25 and I collect at 7:1

ANB is the luckiest player ever and he better kick this goal.  He had a player running on the outside, ignored it and then got tackled.  Thankfully Razor is on hand to look after him.  Dumb play.... and he missed the goal as well.  Jesus.

That feels like our 1st 50 metre penalty in about a month. Surely I must have missed some (I didn't watch the last quarter last week out of disgust.)

ANB…ugh.

4 points in a row...

Cmon

McDonald should have been able to look up there to see hogan streaming toward him from the goalsquare. It's not hard Melbourne.

  • POSTGAME: Hawthorn

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
