Crumbs!  Is that all??  How are we expected to win with only three players??

Two Vagg. It’s just Tyson’s luck to be the held over emergency.

Nah, Tyson has to play so we get a bit of ball ...

Confirmed: Watts not playing.

Seeing Jack W in the jail cell stripes means I can finally say goodbye to what might have been.

I have now officially moved on !!!

Dom Tyson, Tim Smith and Charlie Spargo were on the flight to Adelaide today.

Was hoping Jeffy was there instead of Spargo.

In the wonderful Russian city of Kazan at present ... just thought I should mention they have a Hemingway restaurant. Might try it though I can never recall Hemingway getting this far east !!

Enjoy the potatoes with cabbage sauce! No wonder that vodka is popular!

So from who is on the plane .. we can confirm the one change ...

Smith in

Pedersen: Out

cannot question that change. Smith offers more at ground level and seems to gel unlike Pedersen with the other two big forwards.

Big game needed from Hogan amongst others.

Strangely ambivalent to this game ... the QB game pricked my balloon of optimism well and truly.

Go Dees

Just reading that the Netball comp now awards bonus points for quarters won in an effort to maintain spectator interest.

With our record this year perhaps MFC should get into Gil's ear ?

Correct Diamond, never made it that far. As you know, I spent time in Italy, Spain, Cuba , France as well as Idaho and other American states, but never Russia.  They obviously know nothing about Hemingway so it’s just a gimmick to get in the gullible tourists, particularly my fellow countrymen who as you know are not all that discerning regarding food choices or literary interests. Probably a hamburger joint.  So should be avoided at all costs.  One thing I did do when traveling was eat the local village food usually camouflaged in casseroles and stews. Enjoy your travels and have a drink for poor old crumbly Hem.

Looks like Tyson, T Smith for Pedersen and Spargo.

In:  Tyson , Smith

Out:  Pedders,  Spargo

does the mfc and afl realise the supporters would like to kmow there teams for tommorrows game

Need Jeffy for crumbing value!

If that's all it is then Goody has shown faith in a few on tenterhooks!

Emergencies: Spargo (reportedly traveling with team), Stretch, Weid, Petty.

Hemmingway would love to hear about your travels to these far of lands! Maybe post on the No Bulltish no $ forum!?

Fair changes this week.  I reckon they will play Harmes predominantly at half forward with Tyson going in to the midfield rotation.  I know some wanted Jeffy in the side but I don't think his form at Casey has warranted a recall.

Hannan & Pedders easily fought it out for W.O.G. last week IMO.  Spargo not great either but substantially better than Hannan and a tad unlucky.

Smith a big improvement on Pedders IF he can stay on the park and he can manage to bring much of the form he showed against the Crows.

Weid/Smith for Pedo was always going to happen.  Pedo just doesn't gel with Hogan and it messed with our structure.

Tyson has been playing well with the main issue being how to get him in the mix without upsetting balance.  This may allow us to play Viney as a stopper instead of Brayshaw and get our inside mid mix right again.

I'm ready disapointed with Garlett. He is a better player than Casey but he just hasn't clicked this year. I don't think others have gone past him, more that he hasn't brought it. Can he find it again?

Other than Lever, this is our best 22 right now.  Form might push Garlett or Spargo in, but we must be pretty happy with what we've got on the park.

Perhaps it is more about you and Fences business. Leo Hemingway & Picket laterly Hemingway & Sons  of New York

No Frost or Petty???

Cox monstered omcd last week

who gets Dixon???  Omcd???

who gets Westoff???  J Smith ???

both too small , just my opinion

I thought Frost in to take Dixon and omcd gets westoff

The more I reflect the more I think this game depends on the ruck and clearance battle. Collingwood worked us out there last week and that cost us the game. Can we reinstate our dominance in that area? Did we learn a plan B for when Gawn is getting beaten?

Not enough changes for mine Petty should be in we are too small down back.

Pedo had to be dropped he was hopeless against the pies, I don't think he will get a game again.

Good to see Tyson and Tim.Smith back.

Spargo out is interesting because we haven't replaced him, we have no crumbing forward.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
