Like his attitude but realistically if Hunt can have a big preseason there will be at least 2 blokes capable of playing his position. Depth player for me.

Reckon Hunt needs an attitude adjustment more than a big preseason.

I just don’t know about Hunt. A few may disagree with me but at the moment he reminds me a little of Sam Blease. Super fast, bobs up every game or so with an eye catching run for the highlight reel but not a heap more than that. Frost is capable of this.

Hunt a replacement for Lewis either. Lewis more level headed (bar his prelim). Looks for options, shapes the play. Lever or Salem more his type in my opinion.

Something needs to change with Hunt because right now he is not in the 22 on what he offers. Clean up disposal, become a more accountable defender, heck maybe even give him some run-with roles but as it stands he is not in.

I doubt that Lewis would ever agree to play at Casey - his ego wouldn’t allow it - unlike Bernie whose attitude was all class up to the end.

That's the conversation they have to be having now.

If Lewis has no interest in playing for Casey they should pay him a fraction of his contract to retire.

If he's willing to admit where he is at as a declining veteran then he has value to the list and team.

Interesting take from Garry Lyon, and one I agree with. I am more than happy with Lewis playing on and being part of the side, but it also makes sense to tell him he is no walk up start to the side in 2019 either, especially with someone like Hunt waiting in the wings. He could pass the baton on during the year.

Either way, I would much rather have him on the list than off it next season.

Financially prudent of Liam Pickering and Lewis.  After all the club and most supporters sanctioned the 3 year deal, to a guy that Clarkson knew had little left.

You reap what you sew in life, and the club and it’s supporters deserve what is coming in his 3rd year.

Even after the importance versus impotence debate, the fact is that he has robbed gametime from a few that are/will rightfully look elsewhere.

Experience?  Priceless

Sorry, this talk of him being totally finished is such utter rubbish.  Yeah he was bloody ordanary in the prelim, but so was half the side.  Lewis was a stand out performer in the Rd 22 game against West Coast and also the Crows game at the Adelaide oval, for just two clutch games that I can think of.  And how many of the younger guys say how invaluable his finals experience was for the Elimination and Semi finals.

It's true, as Bernie somewhat showed this year, that we don't know when his body and mind will fall completely off a cliff, but even if we only get the equivalent of half a season out of him, he'll provide a much better return and investment than anything we would likely replace him with on the list, given we have already have 7 delisted/retired players.

Lewis played some good football for the Demons this year.

Shocker on Saturday but had nearly 21 mates in the first half.

Obviously next year will be it, as falling to ground, speed etc will just get worse.

Trade was worth it!

Not sure if alternative pre season with martial arts training incorporated may improve his balance & strength, for one last season!

I will be surprised if Hunt is with us post 2019.

Very much hope otherwise.

Lewis' spot is there for the taking as we all know but no one at Casey has got close to demanding it.

I still reckon Lewis is more than worthy of joining the FD as a coach, specialist coach, motivator and game day planner.

I think so. I'd expect him in the 22 at Rd 1 but I also expect to see someone go past him during the year.

When we win the middle, JL can get position and set up behind the ball.  When we lose the middle, it comes in fast and he gets caught out.  Makes him look super or a dud.

my biggest disappointment was the indiscretions and poor leadership demonstrated.  His choices under pressure were also not great, but he was not alone on that front.

Salem May be his natural replacement as half back distributor.

You got it. Those saying it's 1 game are correct.

But it will be every game where this happens.

Agree, we've already shifted 8 with Kent next to go plus maybe Hogan. No rush to free up the list spot but like Vince this year it's perform or play VFL.

I don't see that Jordan Lewis is any different to anyone else on our list. If his form is good he plays senior football, if his form is rubbish he plays in the VFL. If he cracks the sads and refuses to play in the VFL, then we rip up his contract and tell him to bugger off. I have no issue with him playing 3-4 games, then resting him against a Gold Coast or Carlton to keep him fresh.

Prior to his diabolical effort against West Coast, Lewis's form had been good and nobody was suggesting otherwise. The idea that he was keeping anyone out of the side is laughable. Who would you have brought in - Dion Johnstone?

You would be saying that if he was still at Hawthorn getting a game.

Its very simple Jordan Lewis should not be any different to any other player - if his form warrants selection he plays if not he shouldn't

Pretty obvious and pretty fair I would have thought

I would have thought overall his contribution to the success of the team this year was a net positive - lets see what he brings in the New Year

I didn't watch the Prelim and not sure if i can.  But up till then Lewis was our best defender for the year.  Unless you can find someone better to push him out or he drops off a cliff then he remains.  That experience out on the field is invaluable to a young playing group and one more season (or even half if his body gives up) is worth every penny.

He deserved more credit this year and should have finished top 5/6 in the Bluey.  He also taught some in this club that you don't lie down and just take a beating when a club looks to bully you (any club!!).  I know cheap shots aren't great but the occasional socially unfriendly act doesn't hurt.  This club lacked back bone in general outside of Chunk prior to the likes of Pedders, Bugg, Viney, Clarry, Kent, Vanders and Vince coming along.  This was further bolstered by the arrival of Lewis.  We finally put a group of tough nutz together that wouldn't lie down and take other clubs [censored] on us without a fight.

There's an old saying, you don't know what you got till it's gone.

Lewis has been a ripper acquisition and yes does have his faults without ball in hand and gets caught out on the sling shot (or any sling shot) but i'll take that in the short term until he says (or the club says) time's up or we have a few in the wings that he's holding back.  At this stage where are they?

He's had a good season Rusty absolutely, plenty want to throw enough darts and occasionally hit the board with one and didn't they come out to gloat after the Prelim. His experience was so important in big games and assissted the development of our group.

Having said that I expect him to be part of the list next season just like Lockyer, O'Bree and other elder statesmen were as the Pies started season 2010. If the list develops and evolves as it should I would expect by late in the season Jordy and the FD will not need to make the call as the form and maturity of the playing group will dictate the outcome

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
