Jones - totally lacked finesse

Viney - taught a lesson

T.McDonald - wonderful second half

Hannan - was mostly irrelevantĀ

Harmes - probably not playing

Neal-Bullen - was rarely noticed

Fritsch - not the worst

Gawn - tried but overwhelmed

Oliver - prolific but wasteful

Brayshaw - no heroics today

Hogan - slow and confused

Melksham - lost at sea

Spargo - bambi amongst wolves

Hibberd - fumbled and erred

Jetta - loose and slow

Lewis - tried but friendless

O.McDonald - close to horrible

Pedersen - game has passed

Petracca - continued disappointing season

Salem - rarely imbued confidenceĀ

Smith - little to commend

Vince - gave us nothingĀ

Ā

Petracca - shouldn't do media

LewisĀ was gutless today - second to the contest and unaccountable. Not sure what game you were watching

Smith - battled pretty well

Harsh on Smith, one of our only triers

I'll echo the others and say you were very harsh on Smith.

Also Gus sacrificed himself today to tag Phillips out of the game.Ā  It meant he wasn't as prolific with the ball, but Phillips has been on fire and he shut him completely out of the game.Ā  He deserves some credit for that.

No he doesn't, both were in my fantasy and neither scored!

But in the grand scheme of things, Gus in the middle has been responsible for our uptick in form over the last few weeks. Not sure why you'd move him out of there.

So Gus deserves no credit for tagging Phillips out of the game?Ā  Righto.

Interesting coaching move to put your most recently prolific ball getter in a tagging role.

Needs to be analysed a little more methinks

Why?Ā  Goodwin was probably backing others in to step up, while the coaching staff obviously felt that Gus could tag him out of the game, which he did.Ā  Unfortunately some of our mid tier players didn't step up, so I'd be looking at that more than I'd be looking at the decision to use Gus in a negating role.

According to your comments Joeboy, McDonald, Fritch and Oliver played on their own against Collingwood. 3 versus 22 , a commendable effort to get withinĀ 7 goals. You do tend to put players down whenever we lose don't you? It's called a knee jerkĀ reaction.

burning a key mover on a tagging role is not a percentage play ...use another if you want to do that.

Example .. play Stretch and replace Hannan

Goodwin rarely wins the tactical battles against the better teams it seems

The first line was a joke... clearly.

The second questioned the move to use him as a tagger inĀ the first place, not his effort. When you have a player like Gus, and Clarry also, who give you such drive from the middle and are in great touch, why use him in a negating role?Ā

When your getting smashed on clearances, its only so much you can do as a defender....look at the stats 10-18 our mids played their worst game of the year

Pretracca - closet Collingwood supporter

Jones - totally lacked finesse [QD says -Ā Ā off the pace]

Viney - taught a lesson [QD says - can't bully always]

T.McDonald - wonderful second half [QD says - won position today]

Hannan - was mostly irrelevant [QD says - class difference told]

Harmes - probably not playing [QD says - severe reality check]

Neal-Bullen - was rarely noticed [QD says - slow to think]

Fritsch - not the worst [QD says - this isn't VFL]

Gawn - tried but overwhelmed [QD says - Grundy got him]

Oliver - prolific but wasteful [QD says - Filth's pressure contained]

Brayshaw - no heroics today [QD says - good considering role]

Hogan - slow and confused [QD says - occupying parallel universe]

Melksham - lost at sea [QD says - Essendrugs days redux]

Spargo - bambi amongst wolves [QD says - reality bites bum]

Hibberd - fumbled and erred [QD says - missingĀ Lever apparently]

Jetta - loose and slow [QD says - can collect paycheque]

Lewis - tried but friendless [QD says - finals experience evident]

O.McDonald - close to horrible [QD says - shocked and awed]

Pedersen - game has passed [QD says - played last game]

Petracca - continued disappointing season [QD says - DeGoey gone passed]

Salem - rarely imbued confidence [QD says - did he play?]

Smith - little to commend [QD says - far from worst]

Vince - gave us nothing [QD says - leadership not there]

3 word run down for this thread

Ā

way too harsh

A general negative tone to the 3 word analysis and rightfully so. Thought Smith was ok. Probably the only one I disagreed withĀ

Oh well once you get smashed in the clearances all day as we were,Ā many players are going to look bad no matter how hard they try. So the 3 word analysis will reflect that but not inform us a lot.Ā

Viney - Opposite of Jenkins

He's a big man in a small mans body...Jack needs to learn to change his first option from trying to barge through to bringing teammates into the game.

He's not Patrick Cripps and it catches him out against good tough midfields.

Jack will never be a good captain until he learns his game.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the teamā€™s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourneā€™s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season.Ā There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight.Ā Since that game, the Demonsā€™ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where theyā€™ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ā€˜G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sundayā€™s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0ā€“4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
