Agree here. I thought we hit them hard at every opportunity.

With Trac I believe he is a confidence player and yesterday's game will do him the world of good. Can excuse some basic errors. Just think he will take a game by the throat very soon and trust it is Friday week.

Our tackling was immense. One of our best tackling displays all year.

So today Petracca has a shot on goal and gets too close to the man on the mark. Ends up sky-ing the ball and it is touched on the goal line.

When will someone at the club tell him to get back off the mark and have a proper [censored] kick??

Absolutely correct. I have a feeling that if this is done for every 50m entry he makes, then he will kick a bag of goals and be a real decoy target for defenders, so that the Melk, TMac and others can do their thing. I suspect that this will start occurring in the finals as part of his revised approach to the game - now that he is running hard, again.

No wucking furries!

He could have easily kicked 6 yesterday.  He is impetuous but he's on the verge of an explosion.  Goodwin said the team wasn't far away a few weeks back and he also said the same about Petracca.

Omg.....does everyone else get the feeling that this team will do something really special this year????

Be still my pulsating aorta!!

Five scoring shots today.  Ominous.

Chris Scott on high alert.

I've been of the view for some time now that he should push/play forward more often

He's able to keep his feet well, strong core for changing directio, pressure is good (17 PAs yesterday)

He will be a hand full for opposition defenders when alongside Melk

Also those rubbishing him in last 6-8 weeks, his stats have been consistent and relatively good - just needs to raise the disposal efficiency 5-10%

From afar, I get the feeling he still doesn’t know how good he is. That is the hurdle that he needs to get over and we will see the best of him. Has the talent and exhubrance to be an star.

I get the feeling he thinks he's better than he is, and when that illusion is shattered he panics.

Still needs to get over some brain fades and tighten up his kicking. Like his kick around the body at goal when he played on from the mark. Clear rush of blood to the head.

I actually think he tries to be too team focused sometimes. Has all the attributes and will grab a game by the scruff of the neck at some point...

Yep. He needs to channel some of Melksham's mindset.  Be the man.

It's interesting. I've watched the Magpies last few games and De Goey really draws multiple defenders, leaving his team mates free.

Against the Giants, it was the first time that I remember Petracca doing the same thing and drawing multiple defenders at once. It happened a few times, where 2 or 3 defenders would be drawn to him.

Petracca's ceiling is higher than De Goey's, but it's all about whether he can reach it. The signs in the last fortnight are there and I hope he has a break out game in finals.

He's had a renewed team focus in the last few weeks because he played quite selfish footy at times earlier in the year. They clearly had a word with him about being focused on the team and he's probably gone too far the other way now. I hope he can adjust in time this season to really find that balance.

You only think Petracca's ceiling is higher than De Goey's. He certainly has never shown the match winning form that De Goey has - and perhaps he never will. At best he has shown glimpses, but he has never contributed a 4 quarter game. He seems to me to be a very immature player, who may, a couple of years down the track, grow up, and start to play consistently to his undoubted ability. I certainly hope so, but i fear the worst - that he may end up being, in terms of level of disappointment, our replacement Jack Watts.

It was bruise free footy for both teams yesterday - I hope that all our players lift their intensity against Geelong

It wasn't bruise free - we hit them hard! However, it was definitely a low pressure match. We laid 60 tackles, they only laid 46 tackles. That's pretty embarrassing and shows a complete lack of intensity. 46 tackles is one of the lowest tackle counts by a team in 3-4 years. It will be up around the 90-100 mark again comes finals, so we'll need to adapt to twice as much pressure as we experienced on the weekend.

Hopefully Trac fires up on Friday night against the Cats!

He's immature but that's the point I'm making. He hasn't broken out yet and kicked 3 and could have easily have 5 or 6. l reckon he's almost there.

Trac can step up. If he goes hard and attacks his shots on goal opportunities, he can kick 5 plus.

One of the keys to our finals campaign

But does he have to try and kick the skin off the footy !! ??

Really liked Trac's game over the last two months. Last season he felt like a match winner one week and then quiet soldier the next. These last few months he's been more soldier than match winner, but he has done things to get noticed. His overrall game against the cats was fantastic, his running and hardness against the crows, his little taps and clever handballs vs the eagles and yesterday he finally did what i was hoping to see from round 1 and that was go forward and be that damaging player that you don't know how to match up on.

I really see him as a younger Melksham. I hope Petracca grows into that role, his skill and physique really favours a half forward.

A lot of us... everywhere have wondered just what can he be.

He's starting to crack the shell and get it together....but by the standards of what we perceive his abilities to be he's just on his way.

Keep going lad... keep going ;)

That is pretty true AF, he is nearly there if that is the role he is shifting towards; I suspect that it needs continued focus and I also suspect that he has greater skills yet to come, certainly equal to - or higher than - those of De Goey. His enigmatic footy might well enable a varied series of roles more inclusive that just drawing opponents' in his direction.

he and Brayshaw are that x factor together with Oliver that can take us deep over the next few weeks.

There is no doubt that Oliver will be heavily tagged so it's up to Petracca and Gus to really hammer home our rucking advantage.

Get past Geelong and the lid is officially OFF

The kid has talent, I just see him as being a little too excitable at the moment. When players were asked who is the biggest pest, they all voted Petracca without a second thought. ? He just has that personality, once he learns to curb it back a notch on the field, he'll start being more consistent and will rip games apart more often. (In my opinion. ?)

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
