Wiseblood 24,637 Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 He will be better once the players around him work out how to use a bloke out on the wings. They haven't had one of decent quality in a while. 4 Quote

Obviously not to the standard as he would like but he's not alone. He's also just ticked over 70 games so he's coming up to that 10o game mark where we'll really start to see the best of his football. Only 24 years of age so has many good years ahead of him. You tend to forget he was in the same draft as Petracca/ Bradshaw. We have just about all our entire list available and Hunt is getting a game. He is no cat. Quote

That says more about our pathetic coaching that Hunt is actually getting a game. The fact he is getting a game ahead of the likes of Bennell, Jones, Weideman, Brown is a complete joke. Goody bangs on about Harley Bennell needing do more with his defensive pressure, yet we have this bloke running around getting about 5 touches a game with next to 0 defensive tackles. Thankfully enough he'll be dropped this week. 1 Quote

Dr.D 1,771 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 ed Langdon is playing well this season. we knew what we were getting. He brings speed to our team and offers that outlet. without him, we'd be 18th 2 Quote

titan_uranus 25,250 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Like most of our midfielders, he has been turning it over by foot. Unlike most of our midfielders, he has been running both ways consistently across all four matches and there have been multiple times of him creating space and being ignored/missed by the ball carrier. 1 1 Quote
Lord Travis 10,817 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) His gut running and speed mean he's one of the few players we have covering the required ground and creating offensive opportunities. He'd be tearing his hair out most weeks as he busts his [censored] working into space on the wing, only to watch his teammates blindly bomb the ball long inside 50 directly to opposition instead of using him. Same thing used to happen to Jack Watts. He's also one of the few mids we have working back hard enough to fill gaps defensively. He's having a good season IMO and right now would be top 5 in our BnF behind Petracca and Gawn. Least of our problems and good value trade. Edited July 9, 2020 by Lord Travis 1 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,677 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) We knew Langdon would add pace and run but that he’s knock was his sometimes erratic disposal. I’m still backing him as a good trade. Ed Langdon for effectively a net 2020 2nd rd trade pick was good business. Edited July 9, 2020 by spirit of norm smith Xxx 6 Quote
poita 3,941 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Only needs to wipe out the occasional really catastrophic kicking error to become a very good player. He was a good acquisition for what we gave up for him, and he will be better for a season with this group. Quote

FarNorthernD 5,861 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Just looking at this trade with the benefit of some hindsight. “MELBOURNE has added some much-needed outside run by securing wingman Ed Langdon from Fremantle. The Demons handed over picks No.22, 79 and a future second-round selection for the 23-year-old, while the Dockers gave up Langdon, pick No.26 and a future fourth-round selection.” So we effectively got Langdon for a 4 spot down grade (that we used on Trent Rivers) and a future second rounder. This could end up being one our best ever trades. 4 Quote

The future second rounder we gave Freo for Langdon was effectively replaced with Hawthorn's future second rounder as part of the Frost trade. So it was really Frost for Langdon and what's turned out to be an upgrade of this year's second rounder by up to 8 places. We used that pick 26 from Freo and Hawks pick 50 from Frost deal and this year's first rounder as part of the swap for pick 8 which became picks 10 and 28 which got us Kossie plus Rivers. 1 Quote

I think he did exactly what you suggested above. His kicking has been great lately. I love it when he he takes the first open option then sprints ahead to receive the next kick or handball. Starting to become one of our most important players with our ball movement. Has anyone else noticed every game we have several passages of play where we hug the boundary line with short kicks? I've been impressed with this added part of our game. Taking the open options down the line until we can bring it back into the corridor or inside 50. 1 Quote

I love it that he kicks it 70% of the time and 40-45 in our direction. Too many true little ineffective handballs. Langdon runs and kicks and we should not try to change his instincts. A great addition for the Dees in 2020. Go Langers Go ! 1 Quote

Fritta and Turner 4,688 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 And to think that Joel Selwood had a crack at our 'hard man' Ed Langdon. Thx for the 50m. Check out the photo wearing a very sensible hat. Touch of the school excursions about it. I reckon he would be mothers favourite. 3 2 Quote
durango 2,024 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 He has been one of the best pickups we got with a pick in the 20's and has proven to be a better player than most thought when he was drafted by the MFC. Lots of people we critical about his disposal but I think it has improved in the last 2 years and hopefully we can say he is a premiership player for the MFC in 2021 after the weekend unless there is a draw. 2 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,677 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Langdon was exactly the player we needed. In fact would love another fast endurance midfielder as well. Like Lever, May, Brown … getting Langdon onboard has been a trade success. 2 Quote
Young Blood 2,642 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) Interesting that Langdon isn't being thrown into the mix of our most important players heading into Saturdays game as much as others. He's crucial to us transitioning the ball out of defence and any time we switch of turn the ball over. I would have thought if the midfield battle is tight in terms of contested football that players like Langdon with his outside run might be the difference in the two sides. Not sure it means much but statistically his worst two games of the season were against the dogs. Hope that changes this weekend! Edited September 22, 2021 by Young Blood 1 Quote
