I think we all do now dee-tox. But when he fired up today so did we. Those almost imperceptible little handballs in tight don't make a huge visible impact yet are so important in getting us moving out of a maul.

It is not only Clarry, I also think Jones suffers for votes being taken for granted, his composure around the ball, I swear my back gets a bit straighter when he picks it up but haven't put him in votes for ages.

what was I thinking??!!!!!!!!

I was watching on my phone but it really seemed to me like Oliver was the guy who turned our fortunes around. Once he started winning contested ball we got on top.

I know others had great games, and finished well, but I'm unsure if any others were as influential in creating the victory.

So, my phone watching votes are as follows:

6 Oliver - the engine the generated the win

5 Jetta - our rock down back, reads the play, marshals the team and doesn't lose contests

4 Fritsch - saved the day in an unfamiliar role.  Has no right to be so strong in the air.

3 Lewis - experienced general, who is having a purple patch.

2 Hogan - doing it all, but his field kicking and vision get him the votes

1 McDonald - our best mark and most dominate forward

Apologies to Gus who did a lot right but his finishing wasn't on point today and the blokes I listed were.

Apologies to Jones, ANB, Gawn and Salem, who all made a case for sneaking in with one vote but there were at least 6 better posters on the day.

Anyone else find it hard to know where to rate Gawns performances? He is so consistently outstanding now it just seems like an average game from him. 20 touches, 4 contested marks, 5 tackles, 2 assists, dominates the hit outs.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
