Yes, Adelaide was missing Sloane, B Crouch, Walker, McGovern and Seedsman (and Smith for the year).

But they still had Jacobs, who was destroyed by Gawn. They still had Jenkins, Betts and Lynch. They still had Talia, Doedee (who they've been fawning over all year in Lever's absence). They still had M Crouch, Gibbs, Atkins, Laird (3rd most possessions in the league to date).

That line up would beat many sides this year. Indeed, with the Crouch brothers and Sloane missing large portions of the year, they were still 6-3 going into the game.

We've now got wins over North (6-4, 120.49%, 5th on the ladder, and at a time when we had injuries to key players and they were close to full strength) and Adelaide (6-4, 109.68%, 7th).

That puts us at 2-2 against the current top 8, with one of those losses by a kick.

We shouldn't get carried away, and we have a much harder fixture post-bye than we do pre-bye, but maybe the narrative around us, that we haven't beaten anyone good, deserves further thought.

The numbers over the last five weeks are just unbelievable. It was posted last week our percentage sat at 195 after four wins in a row.

Jumped up to 207.16% after today.

665 For - 321 Against.

No mercy Dees!

Crunch the numbers folks. Win these next two, which we'll be backed to do, and we're 9-3... With Saints, Dogs, Suns in the back end of the year. A healthy list, an effective gameplan, a willingness to switch. Playing for each other. No weaknesses over the whole ground. The best Ruckman in the league. The highest scoring offense. One of the best, if not the best contested ball winners.

Obviously it won't stay this great for the next few months. Noone will make it easy. But we're a serious side. Even the great football unwashed has us as a top 4 side with Sydney, WC and Richmond.

Strap yourselves in folks. The time is now.

You neglected to mention he had 32 uncontested possies - the best average 21...

But wait we have not beaten anyone good in the last 5 weeks, we are ahead of our self, our players are cocky they need to pull their heads in, the crows were missing lots of players, is that what other supporters will be saying this week, picket fences do you still think we will miss the 8, MFCSS is in the past.

Yeah, well, you forgot to point out that he had 791 metres gained - 350m more than the next Demon.

Just finished watching the game. Holy sheep s**t! A few observations:

Don's Lollies - Couldn't help but notice the hedonistic amount of confectionery in the Adelaide coach's box. Pyke had a massive bowl of lollies right next to him; open bags of snakes, jelly babies and other sugary, artificial fruit items strewn over the desk. All before the first bounce. Talk about thinking you've 'got the lollies' before the game's even started. His early sugar high then descended into a messy comedown by 3 quarter time, the diabetic hallucinations riddling his brain as he tried to stare into the players' souls. All to no avail. Ease off the lollies, Don.

Hand Job - Man, how good were Hogan's lightning hands today? Might have had a few private lessons from Clarry. Impressive.

Work For It - One image that stuck out to me in the first quarter was that of Hunt and Pedo doing running exercises during the game. This sums up the current mentality of the club for me. Kick back, watch the game in front of a fan and cheer on the lads? Nah, go and run laps and prove you're going to bust the friggin door down like Jack Nicholson with an axe if you want to get a game. Ruthless.

Nice Try - To the marketing/comedic genius in the crowd with the dodgy hand-written banner hanging on the fence reading 'Jesse Hogan - come to Freo': poor effort. At least wait till we play the Dockers. Or not beating up on teams by a bazillion points. Or not when he's still contracted for a further 18 months. Jackass.

Shut Up - To he clown in the crowd (or was it on the PA as a 'crowd engagement'?) squawking like a crow after every Adelaide goal: stop it, you're embarrassing yourself. Clown and/or club

The Big Sticks - I love how we're bucking the current AFL-wide trend of missing goals. Innovative.

Keeping Up Appearances - A poster on the Game Day thread commented that they thought Viney has put on a few kegs. That could be true, but I tell you its his haircut. He's trimmed away the boyish longer locks to a more meat-and-potatoes, I'm a captain, get-the [censored]-outta-my-way, Sergeant Hartman kinda look. Hard ass.

Trying to Pick BOG - Good luck.

What a friggin awesome moment in time for our club. Start dreaming a bit people, [censored] is getting real.

ANB is so important to our structure, he bobs up everywhere and is involved in so many plays that result in scores or forward 50 entries. He was very good today.

How good will Fritsch be when he’s got 50 games under his belt, he is just such a good user of the ball and rarely makes a mistake.

Best Melbourne side I’ve seen in 50 plus years of watching, the first time since 64 that I really believe we are good enough to win a flag. We’ve had better players but not a better team.

I’m literally still shook from this win. Shook to my core.

Woke up at 6:30am in Paris. Went to get a croissant and a terrible coffee then sat and watched the game (on a terrible WiFi connection that froze sporadically), and literally could not believe what I was seeing. This was a team and a game I have not seen before. It was actually perfect. The way we played, our skill execution, our spread. Unbelievable.

I think finally we are September bound!!!

Btw, Viney is a dead set freak. He was phenomenal in only his second match back. Beast mode well and truly activated.

If we take care of the Doggies this weekend and the Pies take care of the Dockers...

we are going to see the biggest Queens Birthday probably ever.   A crowd of 90k+ would be a possibility.

The last couple of weeks remind me of the 87 finals. For a brief, but glorious, moment the sun shone on everything we did. What a time to be a demon.

I reckon this will be a longer and more profitable journey.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
