It's not.  He's been against the bloke from the moment he arrived.

And there are differences in waiting to see more and writing a player off.  Go and look at his history on Weideman.  He isn't interested in seeing more, he's just interested in seeing the bloke fail.

I have seen  him play at Casey four times live last year and twice on tv. I went to the first game this year wiseblood. In fact if you check my comments from the game against Coburg you will see I praised  him for a good game. Best I had seen from him. It is possible to have a poor opinion of a player without being biased. While stats are not everything it is hard to ignore his results in the games he has played so far.

We did well tonight, but last night's battle between Swans and Hawks was worth watching. 2 very good sides.

We are not there yet,regrettably.

You're speaking rot.

Sydney lost at home to North two weeks ago.

North are battlers.

I only saw the last quarter, so I thought I’d check who scored all the goals and see that TMac kicked FIVE and has barely had a mention in this thread. Funny the things that stick out to people.

So exciting to see us bury a side. I think it reinforces my point about a thrashing requiring one of the sides to surrender though. The ease in which we scored in the one quarter I was able to see was scary, we were playing against witches hats.

Goodwin:

"They seem to be functioning well together," Goodwin said.

"They can all play deep and they can all play up the ground.

"I think that gives us flexibility in terms of how we want to structure up our forward line and flexibility in who we use in the ruck.

That's a fair indication that Weideman 'aint getting dropped.

Honestly, can anybody seriously say Weids game was good? In a good win we had few passengers tonight, Salem and Bradshaw let the turnovers with 6 & 5 respecitively and were generally poor.

Melksham’s disposal by his own standards was below par, it was a bad game and he will improve. Jesse and Hannah were down for three quarters and fired up in junk time but both proven performers. Weid needs to go back to the twos and get some form, but the point is we have have a lot of upside, the team is going places and we want them competing for places.

This is the same Christian Salem who returned, a week removed from a broken thumb, to have 27 touches, 8 marks, 4 tackles and 2 goals?

You're a big something, and it isn't a Demon.

No need to go over emo on me WB, I have in the past been critised for defending Salem but he was not overly effective today.

Look, in the end, the shots were unflattering and those club footy shirts they wear don't suit some body shapes

Let’s not base our success around a win over the GCS of 2018 as being the pinnacle of the AFL Mauriesy. We really need to aim higher.

I know it’s GC but even the hardest to please Demon fan must have been happy with today

I dont get some of the negativity of this thread. We just won on the road by 70 points, granted GC have had the worse draw in history.

And why people pot shot Weed is bizarre. While he was quiet tonight he had been a big improver this year. Ask yourselves would Hogs and TMac be doing so well if he wasn't in the team?

Can't believe people want the weed dropped. He is a relief ruckman who is in the early days of learning his craft. Pederson will probably be gone at end of year and I can't see tmac or hogan being relief ruckman. Tmac can do it but it would be robbing him of his structure which is working quite well. Give the weed time to learn his role even when you notice the difference between him and Gawn rucking.

Good solid game against a very average opponent who looks tired from all the travel they’ve done this season.

Stewy Dew looks like he ate all the players.

Anyway, glad we kept going and got a big win. Our percentage needed it.

Well we have won 3 in a row. Cannot complain about that. We are sitting 5th on the ladder and we put our foot down in that final term and kicked 8 goals. Boosted our percentage and came away without any injuries. I think we all have to be happy with that.

I thought Hogan was having a quiet day but he kicked 3 last quarter goals and played well. Tommy was brilliant and Max did his job, hannan bobbed up with 3 and Spargo I think looks better every week.

If Jack gets through tomorrow he is back next week. Things are looking up and its nice to be enjoying the footy again.

Salem's the in the best form of his career and Weideman is a solid performer in the ruck

The Weed is a confidence player. Simple.

I saw two pieces of play early on where many other players would have had a ping tonight. Weed, be it through being team first or more likely having no trust in himself, went for the handball when he could have had a shot. From that point, he went further into his shell.

I'm not sure what it will take for him to get a strut in his step. All I know is that he isn't a spud.

Yep a team player still young and learning, as opposed to Trac who thinks he's played 300 games, could have passed the ball when on the boundary the body language of the players knew he would not pass it, I don't like that, wouldn't hurt him to have a week at Casey.( Needs to pull his head in)

Look he may not have been super effective as he can be but he surely took a big step in the right direction! 27 disposals, ran hard all game and kicked 2 in my opinion crucial goals when it looked like no-one could hit a cows a*se with a banjo.

Good stuff Christian! Keep it up.

Weideman's playing a role, but Pedersen would play that role even better.

Pedo can't ruck, but he is better around the ground.

He did it pretty well when Gawn was injured last year.

Besides, the ruck component of that role is very small.

I managed to watch the last three quarters.

TMac - you are the surest shot for goal we’ve had since Neita. Magic.

Hoges - mammoth last quarter.

Trac, bit quiet mate, but what you did was good.

Dommy - normally a fan but you went missing tonight. Not sure that was good timing with Viney going to take somebody’s place.

Lewis - best game you’ve played for us. SUPER composed.

Clarrie - you are my favourite by s street.

Jeffy, Hunty - gees I want you both back in form and in the side, but I can’t see anybody giving you a chance.

Great win dees. Time for another scotch.

Oh - one more.

Maxy Gawn - for a bloke who is 8 ft, your skills in picking up ground balls under pressure beneath your knees is the best I have seen. You are a dead set gun.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
