I think we'll need a better plan than this to encourage players to Step Up if we're ever to get truly serious ?

I think this looks like jeffy's 2018 step ladder.  Note it's brand new showroom condition.  unused as yet jeffy.

Has McCartin ever played against us? I’m thinking maybe once at the G, but he always seems to be out against us.

Breakout game alert. Big 3.3 coming up...

So why did they “rest” their most consistent midfielder and arguably their best!? Weird [censored]!

Plenty of the old  "list-management" going on, in 2018.

He’s has never had the chance to be one of Oscar’s b*tches.

Not sure if CP and Hogan play or if we win or lose, but playing them without Nick and Joey is a big plus for us.

I have in the past suggested to Admin that it be added to the list of blocked words.

i suggested the same thing but the admin is a spud.

Hopefully Hogan plays. I have never known him not to click against this mob.

So are you thinking they need to drop all 3 or just 1? Is leg speed your issue?

I think leg speed is there issue but I also think they are needed to lead and direct on the ground.

I would have one of either Lewis or Vince in the team at any one time. Jones would be in the team as Captain although I believe he is not a great captain during the game quarter to quarter

i want to see more speed through the middle. With them there I see us as one dimensional at times.

If we can’t beat the saints by at least 40 points we are kidding ourselves. I really hope they come out with some intent to physically crush these muppets from Moorabbin.

He's actually played a couple of stinkers v's the Saints.

2015 - 7 possessions 1 goal - MCG loss

2016 - 10 possessions 1 goal - Etihad loss

Granted the other 3 games he played against St Kilda he averaged 5.

It's the Lions he has complete ownership of.

The idea of a legume calling the admin a spud is doing my head in

They will come out all guns blazing trying to prove they aren't the rabble everyone suspects them to be. Weather the storm in the first quarter then put the foot down. We should really be winning this one comfortably.

This would make a great thread title. Just saying.

Acres is a big out for the Saints! He normally plays very well v the Dees...

Hogan and Petracca I don’t think play. Hogan is banged up and needs a week off! Petracca hasn’t touched any footballs this week and needs the same. This will be highly beneficial in the short and long term for the season.

I will be shocked if either play. This is where Melbourne need to play 100% fit players. It would be a smack in the mouth to the players on extended interchange who are listed to replace these two.

OUT- Salem, Hogan

IN- Garlett, Tim Smith Or Pedo

I would like to see Garlett play high forward midfield this week. Pace around the stoppages in the centre and wings give us x-factor. I like Sparky in the F50 as our crumping player.

Tim Smith or Pedo play inside 50. I think Smith gets the nod here...

He clicked here, he didn't NOT click.

He does play well against us. The one game he missed against us (rd 1 2017), we beat them.

The double negative strikes again.

This page just got DEELUDED as all F...

I didn't want to start a new thread, but given it's St Kilda v Melbourne playing this week, it's an appropriate time to ask the following: Is Carl Ditterich the only player in VFL/AFL history to have played with two clubs twice? That is, Carl played with St Kilda, then Melbourne, then St Kilda again and then Melbourne again. Has anyone else done that?

PS: This game should be played for the Carl Ditterich Cup, which should have a nice, white headband attached to the top.

This confirms my confirmation bias that jnr has a small problem with comprehension.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
