Just heard an interview that Bernie said he doesn't want Goodwin to put him on Dusty, must be inspiring to the younger players and very Melbourne like.

I cant blame him but keep the thoughts to himself, not publicly state it with such an important line in the sand game coming up, but thats Bernie, pretty dumb.

Where/when was this ?

Surely it was tongue in cheek, having a laugh.

Humour...it was Bernie being Bernie.

There are many on here jumping at shadows this week.

I might have tune out for a while, this is not very productive.

It was off the cuff and the sound bite was very laconical Bernie virtually saying that is the worst job in footy going round and complimenting Martin as a great player.

Perhaps he should have said the bland company line that its an important game and whoever gets the job will have a tough time but I'm happy to do whatever to get the team up etc etc but that's not Bernie and that's what I like about him, he is an old style player.

However we do have a tagger in the VFL who although possessing about a tenth of the skill of Martin and only about half the skill level of Bernie would give 110% of his 10% to be out there.

I’m sure it was said in jest. What are you a Fox Sports reporter?? Pfft

Posters are now looking for anything to have a go. It was clearly very tongue in cheek due to Dusty being Dusty.

Go out and get some fresh air.

He said it on AFL 360 last night when the question was put to him. $hits and giggles, that’s all!

Clearly tongue in cheek. You only read the headline, right?

Yep.  Particularly someone like the OP who wants to dig at absolutely everything.  It's becoming a joke now.

I heard the quote and Bernie was clearly having a laugh.  Anyone with half a brain cell could have worked that out.

Even if he was serious, who could blame him...?

He clearly wasnt.  Bernie just being a lad again.

I reckon this is Bernie's best role for the club.  He tags really good but he is a terrible back man

I know SB I was just having a little joke it has been a pretty sad place this week.

I didn’t see or hear the interview, it was certainly blown out of proportion on the radio earlier, apologies if it was said as a joke, I only heard the radio.

Even if it was not tongue in cheek:

a) Do players ever give away any information about match-ups more than a week before a match??  Easton Wood was interviewed 45 seconds before the match started against Sydney on the weekend and was asked about who would be playing on Franklyn.  He gave nothing away.  45 seconds later, it’s Easton Wood that lined up against Franklyn, much to everyone’s shock.

b) Does Bernie Vince still tag???

c) If our players are looking to AFL360 interviews for inspiration, then we’re in real trouble.

Spot on, my memory isn’t that great at the moment but I believe the original question on 360 was “ Will you get the job on Dusty?”

Bernie replied by saying he didn’t even know he was tagging Zorko until Goodwin told him at the airport.

Shame on Bernie for making a joke. The players should be packed onto a bus, blind folded and made go listen to every single Mark Neeld post match press conference as preparation for the game on Tuesday night.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
