I am going to ask all these people putting Frost onto Waite what happens if Waite plays the backline ? He did that a fair bit last week.

Then Waite will probably mind Frost who has been named at CHF!

Who is he going to match up in our forward-line ?  They have Tarrant and Thompson already, so why would Waite make it taller when we're going smaller ?  It doesn't make sense.

If they're stupid enough to do that I'd smile and delight in that Waite isn't going to hurt us on the scoreboard and have Frost play on the next best matchup in their forward-line.  If that player got out of hand you make decisions from there.

Brayshaw's is form

Hannan and Hunt the same

I asked at training today

They are expected to knock the door down at Casey, starting Sunday

Kent has been rewarded for not only 'attacking' the game last week, even though it was only a praccy game but his training, he has been doing extra and has exceeded all his previous stats

Perhaps you could answer this in the more appropriate training thread, but did you happen to see who of the 21 players picked who are not Max Gawn, was practising their ruckwork today?

Just can't see us losing, and I have to wonder if we'd all be as pedantic with Goodwin's ins and outs if we had not lost the past 17 games or whatever to this mob. Anyone would think we're playing a Prelim.

And yes I am aware I'm part of the problem.

I think I shared a training observation over summer that Brayshaw was well off the pace in the endurance running at training.  Where Petracca improved markedly Brayshaw was either bringing up the rear or close to it.  There were concerns that his endurance base hadn't improved where others had.

Goodwin also intimated that it's form and preparation in this mornings presser.

I do question why he's not fitter and suspect his form would be better if it was.

Wasn't he on the backline when they were twenty odd points down and then Stevens went off and everything changed after half time.

No contact work today, not the day before the game

What relevance has your post got with my post.

Buggs played his first game at this level since he hit the Swan and was ostracised... a little slack and time for him to tweak and get into his groove would seem fair..?

When he was at his pesky best last year, we were rolling.

With no Casey to get into some form prior to the big league I agree to an extent Paul but he will need to hit the ground full tilt this week to justify his selection IMO.  No room for passengers in the AFL and hasn't been for a good 2 or 3 decades now.  If you carry them too long (provided there are other depth options hovering that can play a similar role and do it as well or better and in form in the Magoos) you will pay a heavy price.

Endurance and intensity at the contest are a must in today's game.  I can't recall seeing Brayshaw bring that at AFL level for more than a quarter or two since his first season.  I know he's had plenty of injuries and knocks but AFL level is extremely competitive and tends to sort out the weak from the strong.  Some luck also needed though and hasn't had much of that.  Makes you wonder if the constant head knocks have taken their toll already.  Would be nice to see him back at it once the FD feels he is up to it.

Masterstroke. North are Kent's bunnies - the only team he averages over two shots at goal against - and Frost kicked a goal against them once as well. And it was a really nice one too.

I wonder if the Roos are interested, in Clarke super 'K' ?

Glad to see Kent back.   He can be a real weapon for us if he takes his chances.

Most of us wanted Frost in to release Lever to his natural role but will Frost play forward now that Pedders is out?  Or are we going to play with only Jesse as a tall forward?   Confused.

I'm only glad because we get to see if he's turned the corner on workrate?

He has to put pressure & work hard both ways... otherwise it could be ta-ta.

It is interesting about Brayshaw wondering if the head knocks have taken a bigger toll than we know. His supposed lack of interest maybe because he has been told ,no games until he shows he his all ok ,mfc have an obligation to make sure all is well with him

So why would there be a lack of interest then?

it was stated in another post about his attitude in the game against frankston

I wouldn't take that as gospel,  it's what it may have looked like to the poster, but it's not any sort of confirmation there is any issue at all with Gus.   He's always looked pretty intense during games.

Looks to me they are experimenting with different defense combos.

So small forward line it is.  Pray for accurate kicking into the forward line and lots of pressure from midfielders and our small/mid sized forwards.

I agree that Frost is for defence, if required.  If Goldy goes into they're forwardline (3 talls)

I'm in a dilemma Re Frost forward or back; both as a defensive ploy, either end of ground.

IMO a defensive key tall forward needs a lot of speed around him, for the balls brought to ground. Holding the play in our own half.

I asked him straight ou today, I get on really well with him, it is form, has to knock door down at Casey, intends to

It is another example of what I said pre season, there are no favourites, out of form, back to Casey Hunt being the latest

Thats OK.

Frost goes with him and plays as the defender in our forwardline, stopping the Roos from marking any high balls.

Bringing the ball to ground, and let our smalls do their thing. We have to kick goals, or lock it in our forward half.

I was at that Casey rd 1 game. Pedo had a great match around the ground clunking some big grabs everywhere and had plenty of the pill.

He’d want to have done something around the ground, because his opponent had 67 hit outs to Pedo’s 9! Even their back up ruck had 16.

Most of Brown's best work is on the lead and high marking.  Not saying O-Mac wont be minding him at some point but this would be the poorer of the two options IMO.  Frost has the pace and leap.  Not quite as good at finding his man though or hustling one on one but he would be expecting help in this sort of situation much of the time.  Frost also has greater ability to run off Brown and make him chase hard up the field, which may limit Brown's tank to make multiple leads when the ball comes back again.  The flip side to that is Frost is a bit prone to turnovers, probably more so than O-Mac.  Better option would be to run / carry then handball to a runner (Hibberd / Others) coming from behind then find Brown again ASAP.

With Frost heading off on the run and leaving Brown in his wake (hopefully) this is where Lever's expertise should be utilised if the ball comes back in again quickly on the turnover.  Him & O-Mac will need to stay within reach for the spoil attempts as best as possible.  Suspect North will look to limit us here taking those intercept players deep or on the other side to where Brown might be leading.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
