Got a lot of it today, but was going at well below 50% DE at a point. Tidied it up slightly, but would be a lot more damaging if he hit more targets.

He's working up some great form though. For a guy who struggled to accumulate, he's found himself with leather poisoning the last fortnight.

Needs more penetration in his kicking, prefer to see him hit targets 30 metres away than to go for the long options.

I don't mind sloppy kicks from time to time as lons as they are into slace and to our advantage.  Its the 30mtr pass whilst in the clear to a player free inside 50 that hurts.

But Gus will get better with continuous game time.

He has played sod all and even less continually at AFL level.

Even Martin butchers it multiple times per game.

10 turnovers today really hurt himself and team momentum at stages.  Although he did get a fair bit more of it on the outside today vs usual (32 Ups vs season average 18).  Might have had a soft tag to put the pressure on a bit more than previously and was trying to run to receive a little more to break the tag.  The meters covered today would be interesting vs his average also if someone can get that info.

What a form turnaround his last month has been superb.

Harmes going back to cover Lever meant Gus was shifted to the wing a lot more. Think he shifts back inside more next week.

I reckon he's a much, much better longer kick.

I remember in his first year, his kicking from half back to the advantage of a forward was his standout move.

that might explain some of the clearance issues DS

Agree. He's a natural reader of the play and should kick to space. When he tries to thread it in tight he gets in to trouble.

And 12 months ago he was in cotton wool due to the concussions.

Should spend more time in cotton wool after games than is an ice bath.

Reads the game well and has the ability to win the ball while on the move, push through packs and tackles and kick well on both sides. Complements the skills of Clarrie, Tracca and Viney. What a midfield group!

When he plays on his left he seems to have a lot more time, but someone who is just starting out and can kick 50 mtrs either foot in a side that last year were regarded as a bunch of kids, and then this year go out and catch up six months footy play, it's amazing.

Wait until he takes two or three more paces and lowers the eyes......

So wrapped for Gus.  Plenty of improvement left in him which is the most exciting part.  Awareness/judgement and kicking will improve further Id say, as he has a good technique.

Love his tackling too, they usually stick

I wasn’t expecting him to be the huge possession winner he is. Has had over 30 possessions in 4 of his 12 games, and at least two of those where he didn’t were prior to finally being put in the guts.

Having an outstanding season. I wasn’t as worried as many others that he wouldn’t hit his straps, but nonetheless it’s a relief to see him out the other side of the issues and playing with confidence.

His work with gawn at the centre square is great

I assume depending on who is tagged of oliver et al a call is made as to who is the recipient of a gawn tap?

Or is it more random and his good judgement?

There would be a degree of setness to it. A few times I’ve seen Gawn smash it out to Brayshaw running at full pace. That kind of play has to premeditated.

They would also have to plan for the unlikely event that Gawn doesn’t win the tap as well I guess!

Very fortunate to have the three, very sorry four.......

I like what Brayshaw and also Salem bring to the midfield when in there, a different vibe instead of the crash and bash. I'd like to see their clearance stats when actually put into the midfield too. Salem has had some crackers this year and Brayshaw best position is in there IMO

I opened this thread expecting news he had re-signed. I am disappoint.

Sign on Gus!

Being chased by Fremantle - Source: some spud on 882.

He'll be linked to them until he re-signs because of his brothers.  I don't really think there is much more in it than that.

64.5% DE - good enough in the slip slop and for his position and most importantly only 1 clanger on the weekend.

Not to be too harsh on the guy but he had a team high 6 clangers against the Saints and was caught out defensively as well. So it's nice to see him bounce back big time.

Cutting out the  lazy kicking mistakes that happened a fair bit at training over summer where he'd be finding the ball with ease but kick off one step or bomb the ball. It was why I understood that he was left out of the side.

Still, he's bounced back really strongly from the injury interrupted years and from being left out at the start of the year and I still think he's got a heap of improvement left.

If he could weed out those shocker short kicks and indiscriminate long bombs he’d be having a ripper season

I know that the talk is Freo is into him, but I believe North have made him their next major money target

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
