The sandpapergate saga is depressing. Round 1 loss because of mostly coachable errors is nothing compared. All things are relative.

Agree was a pretty good game, that last quarter was intense all the points kicked by both sides, menzel missed a couple of sitters aswell, we still should have won with the amount of inside 50s oh well we have won games with less inside 50s so that’s footy for ya, bring on brisbane

As a football supporter you have to be prepared that reaching that type of ongoing dynasty level like that Geelong side experienced may never happen. Since the turn of the century there's probably been four teams that were clearly stronger than the rest. In many season there hasn't been a standout side, the last few years included. This isn't an issue only for Melbourne supporters.

Honestly mate, we all want to win a flag and watch our team dominate. The feeling of winning is truly addictive, that's why some people go mad seeking it (see: Australian cricket team). Just don't attach your mental health to this team's success or otherwise you will suck all the fun out of it for yourself.

That was the worst side Geelong will put on the park in 2018.  3 debutants, no Dangerfield, no Henderson, no Scott Selwood, no Nakia Cockatoo, Harry Taylor gone in the first quarter, Ablett with no pre-season game time.  And a lot of punters have Geelong finishing 6-9th this year anyway!

Given the club has talked a big game for 6 months about how much round 23 hurt and would spur on the players, that loss yesterday has left me absolutely gutted.

It's so predictable that we'll now beat Brisbane and North, and just as we start to get our hopes up again we'll lose to Hawthorn because they have strong leaders, and a culture of winning, and they treat sides like Melbourne with contempt.

If we were serious we would have started this season 4-0.  It was a dream draw to start the year.  It's so predictable that we'll be 2-2 and scratching around the middle of the ladder all year.

All I can say is the club had better hurry-up, and find a home base; because people are sick of giving, and 'being taken'.

 

see: multinationals, politicians, taxes, etc, etc.

 

people want contract, want to feel they belong, and want that proven.  they don't want to be shut out by fences and locked gates. they don't want separate after match get-togethers based on money or cloth.

they want a sort of,  e-quality.

 

this is the one constant failing

That’s true about the Neeld era but there are now expectations and that inflates the disappointment of losses like yesterday. It’s a good thing but sure didn’t feel like that last night  

We are at our best for over a decade. Just need some cool heads in the leadership.

I am like Nash, disappointed we lost, disappointed with first half but pleased with Jones' Petracca's and Hogan's performances, bodes well for the season

Unfortunately a few got ahead of themselves and didn't produce on game day, easy fix at the selection table if need be

We lost but still had a chance to win with 8 seconds to go

Left me flat, frustrated and weary about the journey ahead.

I honestly thought we'd turned some kind of corner post-round 23 2017, yet this performance was so similar to that one, that it was all very depressing.

Tediously familiar and bound to hurt us again come seasons end.

Hear Hear @Nasher. 184 < 3 - I'd rather lose by 3 points and have cliches thrown at the team such as 'brave' 'honourable' and 'was ours to lose' - than get smashed. As someone rightfully said, 4 points is more meaningful - but so is % as this is a marathon, and we just had a little calf strain.

How many close games did they manage to lose last year? It was a few, and resulted in their more emotional members calling radio talkback in a rage, and cutting up the membership cards.

(They also won the flag).
