Christian Petracca declares his loyalty (2018)

A common trait amongst most of the power teams if the past from the baby bummers, through to the Swans, Cats and Hawks is that they retained most of their best young players all the way through their successful era.

Although individuals will only naturally seek what is best for themselves, successful teams share the spoils from the best players down, each sacrificing something for their team, and their team mates.

Max is on board, Viney was never in doubt and Clarry appears to want to stay a Dee. If CP5 can hold fat with the club talking about his career, it sends a thumping message to all the other younger players.

Ultimate success although not certain, would be at the very least a realistic goal within 3 years.

I am certain our player management are acutely all of this. Gee, at one function l attended even Chris Connolly was mapping out the contracted players 5 years ahead of time. Maybe, at that time we needed to worry more about the here and now instead of the future. Most of his list are now long gone.

Good luck thisTruck, you are one of msny important parts of our side and our future.

There is nothing new in the article - just the HS re-hashing old news.

Now, if he had re-signed that would be 'Great news!!!!'

I do think it is only a matter of time before he does re-sign.  If I recall correctly  his manager, Paul Connors was quoted as saying he is going to make us pay top dollar for Christian's signature so it may take a while.

But hopefully, it is sorted sooner rather than later - really don't want it to drag out.

Would you rather he said...

"I'd love to end my career a one-club player, and I anticipate that will be the case."??

Those quotes do bode well for his imminent signature. I know Scully said nearly exactly the same things in 2011, except for one difference. He had already put contract talks on hold til the end of the year (how did we not see it coming???). Petracca has indicated a contract will get done. Normally when players are on the way out, or considering leaving, they normally trot things out like 'I want to focus on my footy' and 'There's no hurry/timeframe.'

No guarantees but I think Petracca will sign sooner rather than later.

Would love trac to signs on long term for two reasons.

1. He is a gun and will be an elite talent.

2. We get to rub it into saints supporters his whole career because they passed on him!!

I will be happy once he signs the dotted line.. for now, it' just s headline trying to sell papers.

correct - the number of players who have made the same comment only to be playing elsewhere in a season or two...

Sign on the dotted line and then you are a Melbourne player for the next (insert length of contract here).

According to the latest draft/trade/FA comments coming out of the AFL, even a contracted player isn't secure from switching clubs for much longer

The one club player may make us all feel warm and fuzzy but the landscape is that players look after themselves and clubs look after themselves. If both the player and the clubs needs and wants are aligned the player stays otherwise hasta la vista baby...

You would think most players would want at the start of their careers to finish as one club players. Most humans are loyal (long term, paid up MFC members being ‘elite’ examples) and would rather have success with the club that chose them as a 17 y.o.

Of course it doesn’t always work out. Twelve of our 44 players started at different clubs meaning a tick over 70% are one clubbers. I have no idea what the league average is but 70% feels about right.

Lets hope the core of our young group stay with us. Let’s face it there aren’t too many reasons to leave.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
