Yes on the best days drafting is still a lottery. Some of the best under age talents have failed to make it at senior level.

I thought Charlie was good late in the season. Doesn’t deserve the abuse.

Fair point chook plus he is still only a kid.

We've now drafted 2 more small guys to compete for his spot. It will be interesting to see how he responds to this pressure.

Elegt, I believe, is Latvian for "negativity"... I can't recall seeing much of anything positive from him.

Spargo is our best decision maker inside 50....  hes like a little quarterback down there.

Would love to see him get more of the footy next season as whatever he touches usually turns to gold.

No, I think it's Turkish for troll or wet blanket - cant remember which.

I’m not a fan of threads for specific players and particularly players who are young and developing. They’re under enough pressure as it is. And we should remember that players don’t pick themselves, either in the draft or at the selection table, and they are reliant on the coaching staff addressing deficiencies in techniques and skill. If there’s a failure its either in recruiting or development. As long as players are professional, hard-working and sweat for the cause we should just leave them alone.

And if we insist on separate threads then I’d prefer to focus on senior under-performers such as Melksham and TMac. They’re well paid and in the case of Melksham, the application isn’t there anymore. He deserves some home truths.

We could do with a zippy kicker down back, especially if we ever want to move Salem or Rivers.

We could definitely do with skilled users on the wing.

We need multiple options across half forward to get Kossie closer to goal where he can hit the scoreboard.

And above all else we are crying out for a handball receive player on ball to make use of our bigger guys getting first hands on the ball.

The two new guys probably have a bit more versatility than Spargo. Laurie has a bit of extra size and a thick frame, Bowey has a little more athleticism. They can fit in other roles if the coaches aren't afraid to go smaller.

I defer to your obviously superior grasp of linguistics!

They commentators described him as the most competitive player in this years draft.  For the moment, that sounds good enough to me.

Pathetic game today

Have to agree.

I’m expecting him to kick on in 2021 after some promising signs last year but yesterday he regressed back to 2019.

Slow, small, indecisive with ball in hand, can't hold a tackle and always in the wrong position. And I'm pretty sure I saw another set shot at goal from 40m that failed to make the distance.

Agree,  Yesterday for most of the  first quarter his direct opponent was Caleb Daniels. Daniels repeatedly rebounded and set up many scoring opportunities for the Doggies. Sorry to say it, but if Spargo keeps  getting a game we are in trouble. 10 possesions yesterday, is poor!  Not his fault that he was picked up by us but that is another matter. He was also given a two year extention. Good luck but I cannot see the value he brings to the team.

How does he continually get games?

Because we basically have nobody else in the small forward department.

Compare with St Kilda who have Lonie, Higgins, Gresham and Billings. All classy goal kickers.

Our forward line simply does not stack up with the rest of the comp.

Add Dan Butler

Good old Elegt, the epitome of a foul weather "supporter".

Only turns up when things are bad and then does nothing but criticise.

Agree but he has had 34 games for an average of 6 kicks per game, 2.4 tackles 0.7 goals. His long kicks struggle to make 40 metres

I think the writing is on the wall, surely by now almost anyone is worth investing  a few games to see if they can do better.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
