Let us know your best MFC Team in the last 50 years.

B:     A Johnson   D Hughes  G Yeats

HB:  B Lovett  G Hardeman  S Febey

C:     S Alves  G Wells  R Flower

HF:  G Lyon  D Schwarz  T Viney

F:    J Farmer   D Neitz  A Jakovich

R:  J Stynes  Gerard Healey  N Jones

Int:  J McDonald, R Grinter, R Robertson A Yze

Emerg:  B Wilson. E Spalding, A Obst, B Green

Nice post. This should keep us going through summer. Need to find a spot for Shane Woewodin,  2000 Brownlow medallist.

I'll take Sean Wight instead of Hughes, Wilson for Grinter,  Woewodin for Healey and the way things are going, Oliver for Robertson - the latter two because there is already enough fire power to sink any defence in the history of the AFL. Leg speed and ball movement makes me lean towards Woe and Olllie.

If that forward line was uninjured holey moley it would have been devastating

Next years 2018.....go dees

It's a good team.

I'd want Tingay, Jeff White and Shaun White in there.

I agree Stinga and Jeff White need to be in the team. Otherwise its looks pretty good.

Spalding wasn't really that good , guys like Steven Tingay and Steven stretch in for Yeats and Spalding

Good effort, although Grinter wouldn't make my second side let alone the first.

I'd concur, he came good at Carlton - I'd love Stinga, and he got too injured too frequently to really be consistent unfortunately, (does anyone else remember the time in WA where he side stepped to eagles players (one ready to shirt front) and they collected one another...could have been the same game as a chris lewis bite...but hey I'm sure its not and I'm throwing all my WA memories into one basket...

No Balls?

No room for Sean Wight?

About 3 of them would have made the best team prior to that.

JohnsonT, Johnson R, Adams, Barassi, Williams, Mithen, Lord, Roet, Bourke, Dixon, Townsend, Ridley, Case, Tunbridge, Groom.

Probably missed a few.

50 years expired in 1967...

Kinda changes the team a bit.

No Paul Hopgood?

Just missed out.

Gee, you could make a case for a truckload...Tilbrook, Malloy, Stretch, Steve Smith, Fowler, Giles, Zantuck, Battiston, Icke, Jarrott, Moore, O’Dwyer, Lovett, Rhode, Lovell, Bennett, Davey....

Laurie Fowler (3 Blueys) in for Yeats, and Sean Wight in for Hughes. Tingay ahead of all those listed on interchange and emergencies. And Garry Baker on the bench as 2nd ruckman.

D. Hughes, C. Connolly, S Febey

Good team Big Carl just a couple of changes to the 22 in bold. I loved Connolly when I was a kid before he was cut down by injury

I think Clayton Oliver is better than Greg Healy should be in that team along with Michael Hibberd who is much better than Graeme Yeats

Agree Red and Blue.

Big oversight!

Big fan of Tingay, Sean Wight and Jeff White.

Laurie Fowler 3 time b&f 75 79 80    you must be young not  too many that started in the 70s  not a bad side either way.

What about Diamond Jim.   The Great John Tilbrook. I think  his salary in the 70s was more than Clarry and Sugar put together.

Do you know what l mean?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
