Not far from the truth, a truth of which most people who think he's a knockabout top block, have either forgotten or are too young.

Perhaps we should constantly remind betting agencies to choose spokespeople responsibly.

Do you really believe that his history would be a negative in the eyes of betting agencies?

Swan was clearly given free reign to say whatever he felt with the betting company’s account, and attendees felt the brunt of it at times.

You know what Clayton Oliver would be if he wasn’t a footballer? A virgin. #Brownlow

"Swanny would be the guy that puts stickers on apples if he didn't play AFL," he hit back.

Pretty sure it's the public so logically the clubs with the biggest supporter bases are advantaged.

Sucks for clubs like Collingwood with small supporter bases.

Reckon the Eagles game didn't help Clarry as far as umps go. Pathetic really considering all the diving Danger etc do.

Nice of the umpires to not give Danger any votes in round 22 to ensure he didn't win and embarrass the AFL!

Rnd 22 - Dangerfield:  32 disposals, 12 clearances and two goals.  BOG from every other award voters.

Umpires colluding is even more embarrassing than Danger winning - that it is not in the spotlight does not make it less unethical.

2 point loss to Freo and a 13 point loss to the Tigers where we dominated for all but the last term, and we didn't score a vote in either.

Get stuffed.

I'm so glad I fell asleep prior to the telecast, I think I would have smashed my TV after round 5.

Wow, the above is a disgrace!

I am glad Oliver didn't poll as well as he should have. Will be better odds next year. I think Dusty, Kelly, Oliver and Fyfe. Winner probably comes within those 4. The quality of talent around at present is insane. Martin is as good a mid as I've seen, and he should get better. It will take a very special player to beat him next year (Martin is only improving). Oliver, Kelly and Fyfe are all unique talents.

Oliver is  few years away.

It seems their is a bit of a seniority/personality content to the voting.  Do your time or be a media darling and you get noticed.  eg Pendlebury 15 votes from 16 (mostly losing) games.

And Matt Crouch only 11 votes!!

None of the six young guys in the Coaches Award top 10 (Merrett, Josh Kelly, Oliver, Matt Crouch, Ross or Zorko) were in the Brownlow top 10.  Proves the point about seniority/personality gets the votes.  Who got it wrong?  The coaches know a thing or two and they have a birds eye view of the game.

The Brownlow has become a media fanfare and a farce!

And Oliver, not to be intimidated responded:

Swanny would be the guy that puts stickers on apples if he didn't play AFL ??

Oliver takes no cr-p on the field nor off the field!!  Well done!

The umpires are as casual as i am, i wouldn't be able to pick most of them apart in a line up.

Actually I think Dane Swan himself suggested he'd be putting stickers on apples if he wasn't a footballer a few years back. Fake news?

They should do the count on the radio like old times. Phone the winner to tell them to come into AFL house in the morning.

And get the sheilas to phone in descriptions of what they would have worn to the papers.

I think you missed the point of both posts quoted...

And to think no other club wanted Dusty last time he was ooc.

We overlooked him on draft night, didn't try to get him a couple of years ago.

Great.

There is a book written on the Demons last 10 years, is there a full chapter written on Dustin??

Our drafting continues to hurt us Kelly 21pts, Wines 19 ...

Well, this is something new. Can we have a new thread where we can explore all the misfires in our recruiting over the last 100 years?

Ten talking points

1- Viney & Oliver in the precount fashion segments. All class.

2- Jack Fitzpatrick.  Got his dream to go to the Brownlow

3- I hate Sportsbet & all that rubbish. Dane Swan is a total tool.

4- mark of the year ... Danihers was great.  Howe’s was unbelievable and better. Deserved to win it (again)

5- Bruce Mac is very annoying.  Dusty held his nerve.

6- umps hate Melbourne. Proven v Freo ... lost by 2 points in last minute  No Votes

7- Daisy Pearce is a star

8- sure Martin was pick 3 and the Dees picked Scully & Trengove. But who wouldn’t at the time. We made draft bloopers but these choices were solid at the time. Unlike drafting Lucas Cook, Gysberts, Strauss etc

9- Matisse Stynes. Jimmy would be proud. She was very good.

10- Jonesy sure was BOG in the fashion stakes. Great style.

I didn't watch it but that is by far the best assessment of the media stuff this morning.  Very positive!  Thank you.

I wish I had seen the Matisse part and Daisy.

Daisy always has such class and poise.  Is it possible for her to take over from Bruce...:o

you should've been on the block, uncle. have you auditioned for the gatwick block episode? you could team up with biffo and he could show you where all the bodies are buried. make great tv

on another topic what can you tell us about your romsey neighbour jakey lever? you must have ferreted out a bit of local gos

I didn't know Uncle lived at 10 Rillington Place Romsey, Daisy!!?

Tmac getting 9 votes as a forward. I think that's where he plays now, he just doesn't seem to have it as a defender.

sheesh.......based on the umpires' opinion......surely you jest

Oliver only 12 votes? Ridiculous. I suspect he paid the price for being too chatty on field. Umps don't like being talked back to.

I don't consort with the common folk dc.

Olivers does his best work in close, he's just not flashy enough at this point for the umpires to take notice.

Mo and her partner were spectacular  on the carpet I must say.

Winner 2017 Brownlow. Escorted into Building, Under constant supervision what to say and do while in there, Escorted to press conference. Escorted out. Strange.....

Daisy's intelligence & poise really showed up Bruce's yappy little puppy thing.

I wonder how long it took Dusty last night to stop Bruce from humping his leg?

Overall we finished 9th on the brownlow team ladder much like the season ladder!

Positive is we had the most amount of players poll votes which means an even contribution!

Reality we don't yet have an outright star/s who can poll high votes.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
