Goody had this to say about Jack today:

"Clearly there's a lot of hysteria around Jack and how he's performing, (but) he's improving," Goodwin said on Thursday. ย

"His two games at VFL level show he's progressing and he's performing now to the level that we think is really appropriate.ย

"We're really hopeful that Jack is continuing to improve and we're looking forward to seeing him play his best football shortly.

"I've said this a bit and I'll say it again, because it's clearly something that's not getting through, Jack will be treated like every other player on the list."

As someone said about him being dropped there is n mystery. ย he was out of form. Got dropped and now is back. He would have to play a howler not to get selected for the finals.

But if he does have a howler i have little doubt he will be dropped. So perhaps from the perspective of being at risk of missing finals you are right and it is is his biggest game. but i can't agree that it is therefore a career game.ย

So how about i amend my comment to partially mistaken.ย :goody:

I can live with partially :)

Not that it makes much difference but I should also amend mine to 'MFC career game', I certainly didn't mean to flippantly say his whole career was on the line.

bombers just upgraded a bloke who was suspended for three weeks in the vfl last weekย so it might be a situation where they have to be upgraded to be eligible for finals or something?

That may be it.ย  I guess it is important to have as many players as possible available going into the finals just in case.ย  Nonetheless I am really happy for Keilty's upgrade.ย

And, it shows mfc is giving our rookies a real go - 4 of our 6 rookies have been upgraded this year.

Suggested in the Dec thread ....

Could be that we want to name Dec as an emergency so he needs to be on the list.

Could be that TMac is out for Frost and they want a tall emergency.

Jack Watts has the opportunity to be a legend of this footy club over the next two months.

don't fearย for him, he haas played 150 games, his time is now.

Agree with all the aforementioned, with the exception that Jack Wattsย has an opportunity to become legends for the club over the next 2 - 6 years (as do many players with his potentialย on our list). ย Let's face it if we hope to be a good team and play dominant seasons, finals and grand finals in that sort of period, then it presents a lot of opportunities. ย To gauge a player's ultimate value to the team simply on what they produce in the next few weeks is foolish in the extreme ย (not accusing you of that Wrecker).

I often think our expectations of players are unrealistically high. ย There are few players in the history of the game that have gone through their careers without some kind of form slump and very few key position forwards that have been dominant players early in their career. ย Again if we are realistic, Jack Watts is not really a traditional key forward and will probably never be a bone crunching courageous marking type, but he has the potential to be an extremely damaging player in his own way through his elite feild vission, feild passing and shots on goal. ย Whilst he has let us down with perceived effort/courage on many occasions during his development ย (and even some recient history), he has also stood up on many occasions in big moments and been a match winner in games. ย As we improve as a side, I think life will actually get easier for Watts and as well as him gaining in confidence and understanding of what it required.

For this week, going his on the contested possessions,ย tackling and report/MRPย that he has produced at Casey, he clearly has the intent back and that combined with Jack Watts playing at even half his potential best is better than what either Wagner, Stretch or Hannan have produced in recient weeks. ย The up-side to Watts far surpasses any of the aforementioned.

Just watched Goody's presser.ย  I've never known a coach to say nothing so often.ย

Not that I care.ย

I might be in the minority, but I like that. He can pick his moments in the media, otherwise just play a straight bat and do the talking behind the scenes and on the field.ย

He learnt from The Master :roos:

Keilty has been upgraded.. Saw it mentioned somewhere on here that TMac is nursing a slight knee niggle so I guess he'll be the replacement.

Now we know why Frosty was so glum at training, perhaps justifiably so.

I love how wooden and unstressed he is. Would hate to have a heart on his sleeve indefensible nuffie like Hardwick for a coach.

Keilty will be an emergency this week, just to give him a taste of the pre-game routine, and incase a big man goes down. Was told it was a reward for his latest form.

I just take them with a grain of salt. About 5% of the content provides insight.ย

Goodwin when discussing Jack Watts referred to other players also being looked at, however Frost wasn't mentioned. Considering that Grundy will be back and Cox might also stay in the side, would have thought there was a role for Sam. Not looking good for him.

"Goodwin said the match committee would also look at Christian Salem, Corey Maynard and Jay Kennedy-Harris when picking its 22 to take on Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday."

When you haven't won a premiership in half your memberships lifetime you are THE legend if you produce when it counts.

Jack Watts can be that player.

ย

Probably only jack Viney off our best 22ย

Watts and Salem in.ย

Wagner and Stretch out.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
