Max Gawn

Featured Replies

One was for a block by putting his hand out towards his opponent in the ruck. Umpires didn't seem to notice that the opponent's hand was in contact with Gawn's head. Does that make him a blockhead?

Maxy gave away 5 free kicks today.

Ive still got no idea what at least 4 were for.

Seems he wasnt so happy either;

Abc sport tweet

Umpires don't like him and it gets down to that folicly challenged idiot who can't bounce the ball.

Maxy has always struggled against the saints, with the exception of rnd 1. Having the umps plucking frees doesn't help

Heard that interview.

He said he kept giving frees away so he just  gave up competing for the hit out.

That would explain why Clayton was giving him an earful during the 3Q.

The blocking tends to occur when the bounce is bad and goes towards the player who then offends by trying to protedct himself.  I used to be against dropping the bounce from the game, but if this keeps being the interpretation then I say ban the bounce and give both ruckmen a fair go.

Maxy was pretty stiff today on a number of frees IMO, but Billy Longer seems to excel against Max more than any other ruck man in the competition. Not sure why, but he's a bit like Maxy's kryptonite.

AFL will love that it's ruined ruck contests.

Maybe if that tiny tiny little turd of an umpire could bounce the fucken thing, that would be awesome.

Gawn never does well against Longer. But some of those free kicks against Gawn today for pushing off with a straight arm. Gawn was pushing off, but not with a straight arm. It was bent on nearly all occasions - which is perfectly legal. The umpire just got them all wrong. Hopefully the club seeks a please explain from the AFL. This could have been the difference between finals or not finals if we'd got done. Very poor umpiring all day. Just brainless umps. No excuse for it. Incompetent. They should be fined.

I've spotted the problem

Was molested all day. Having said that we looked better when Pedo was in the ruck

Saw that. Clarrie gave Max a double handed push to the chest and told him (most likley) to get his act together. Amazing for a young player!

funny how putting your hand up to fend off a player jumping into your face is not allowed, but at throw ins you can drag the opposition player down by the arm as much as you like and not give away a free. disappointed in some of the umpiring at times they just let what ever happen then every now and again pull something out of the hat.

Gawn will bounce back. He was clearly frustrated today and it took it's toll on his overall game.

Let's just hope he doesn't bounce back 10m from where he's supposed to.

Uh, no. Max v Longer has happened once, when Longer was at Brisbane.

You may be thinking of Hickey, who beat Max twice in a row. Then Max destroyed his soul in round 1 and he hasn't been seen since.

I don't worry about Max. He's a natural competitor.

The club does needs to question the decisions against him so that we can rectify. The centre square infringements today really helped give them some momentum.

The frees were unfathomable and are so inconsistently applied its a complete joke,

  1. 15.5  FREE KICKS – RELATING TO RUCKS

    Each Team must have no more than one Ruck to contest any bounce, throw up or boundary throw in.

    A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player where the Player:

    1. (a)  who is not a designated Ruck contests a throw up or boundary throw in;

    2. (b)  unduly pushes, bumps, holds or blocks an opposition Player who is the Ruck contesting a bounce or throw up by a field Umpire or throw in by a boundary Umpire; or

    3. (c)  who is contesting the football as the Ruck at any bounce, throw up or boundary throw in makes contact with the opposition Ruck prior to the football leaving the field or boundary Umpire’s hand.

  • REPORT: Carlton

    I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

    The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

    A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
