Just interviewed on SEN, the word learning was mentioned he’s going to fit right in at Melbourne.

Β

Just listened to the McClure interview, or whatever radio bit was posted last page.

Sounds super grounded and head in the right space, good life perspective.

Sounds very good culturally.

To be fair I think the contract side of things are question marks, Tmac is a glaring example.

We couldn’t give away that contract this trade period. You can look at Omac, or no one wanting ANB or AvBΒ as overrating certain players. (I known it is a footy dept collective but the buck stops with Josh).

Missing our on a winger this time is a whiff.

On the incoming side he gets some very interesting and positive deals done (the pick swaps to jump back up the star board in particular)Β for the Dees, well done Josh. There has been a narrative that β€œwe get bent over” each trade period for a few seasons now which is just ridiculous.Β

Where does this come from?

Is there any evidence that ANB or AvB wanted to leave?

Is there any evidence the club had made known that it was prepared to trade ANB or AvB if the right offer came along?

Do we know for sureΒ that no other clubΒ wanted ANB or AvB?

Short answer is yes. Β

Be thankful we are Melbourne and not Collingwood. Β The club didn't bust any relations with its players in offering them up for trade (at least from the outside) - T Mac himself and his manager were very complimentary of the club and their honest approach about discussing the opportunities that would be available for him next year - I imagine it was the same as with other players as well. Β I haven't seen one piece of negative social media with how the club dealt with guys like Preuss and Hannan moving on. Β Meanwhile down at the Carringbush...

Very good points. The comparisons with Collingwood and Essendon (at least, what we must assume from the scale of their departures) bodes well for future team happiness and cohesion as well as the aim of being attractive to other players wishing to join us.Β

Anyone else cringe a bit at some of the questions asked in media conference video?

- what was it like when you told you were leaving NM?

- what did they say to do?

- would you have stayed if Shaw stayed?

- what are you going to work on as criticism is that you are a bit one dimensional?

?

I was impressed with how many different ways they found a way to ask if he was excited to be joining Melbourne.Β

It was a bit cringe worthy, but the good side of it is BBΒ handled each question really well. He is articulate and seems to have a really good perspective on things.Β

BB is such a great get for us. Really excited to see what he brings, and equally as excited to see Sam settle in the role he plays best (#2 KFP).Β

In a loosely related matter, are we contenders for the worst collective of haircuts in the AFL?Β

Β

I think the Bulldogs still have that one covered Smokey

And don't forget KC has played with Gill's love hold self AFL supported team against BBB in The nearΒ Tas Team hanging on from grim death!!

Did Ben Brown do any ruckwork at North? Even just in the forward 50? If not, I assume it will be the same with us and depending on who plays I assume Weideman,Β Jackson or Tom McDonald will be Max's support. I'm not a fan of Weideman in the ruck. It's not that I don't think he's adequate in the role, but I think he's better remaining in the forward line for the whole game.

β€œYou’re Ben Brown.” Tmac

β€œYes.” Brown

β€œYou play Full Forward.” Tmac

β€œYes.” Brown

β€œI play Full Forward too.” Tmac

β€œSo?” Brown

β€œWell, are you better than me?” Tmac

β€œWell, I never met you, but . . . yes.” Brown

Really important to know whether it was used as a verb, gerund or a noun. Makes a big difference as to how I think about this.

Agreed, if he said somethingΒ like β€œI’m looking forward to learning a lot under Simon and Adem” all good with that. If he said something likeΒ β€œI’m looking forward to the learnings I will gain...”. ?

Question becomes what number will he take on as a Demon?

Sorry I can’t recall the exactΒ use ofΒ the word, but it definitely sent a shiver down my spine.

Other than that I liked the sound of him, he wants to carry on wearingΒ number 50. I really hope it works out for both him and the club.

Β

I reckon BB is worth 2x first rounders. So this a steal, but Norf will bottom out again next year and the next...

So they will re-build with high draft picks.Β

And they'll love their hew home in Tassie

I was disappointed with their lack of probing to determine if he’d shorten his run up from Dagobah. It’s only 23 light years away but us mere mortals have departed our mortal coil well before his his first step (what odds for a 10 goal game 2021?!)

Yes, next year the networks are even threatening toΒ cut to an ad break as he starts his runup and then cutΒ back in as he kicks the ball. A ten goal game could add up to as much as an extra 13Β minutes ofΒ AAMI ads.

For the run up he has been told he is not allowed back past the centre line at the G if he marks the ball inside the 50.

He has asked to be allowed to go as far back as centre half back but this has been nipped in the bud by the coach worried hisΒ run up could actually extend all the way back to full back if he is allowed his natural game.

Having re-watched his highlightsΒ package and having heardΒ him interviewed about joining the Dees, I just do not understand why North let him go. I just don’t get it. He’s a gun. And he strikes me as a quality individual.

BrownΒ has the potential to become my favourite player. And quite quickly too.

Interesting pretty sure I saw BB testing the wind direction in the car park outside gate 2 security were placing witches hats all the way back near the train station.

Β

Genuinely can’t wait for the growth that will now come from Weid.Β Jackson will grow and Jackson things anyway.

But for Weid - being able to be the 2nd guy will release the shackles and more importantly has a gun to learn his craft from. We haven’t had a genuine full fwd as a senior player for a long time. The little nuances he will pick upΒ from Brown will seriously elevate his game

Truly pathetic. Why don't you take your 'presentation' directly to Tom (at a training night) instead of anonymously slurring him.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle.Β As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.Β

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
