over 33,000 there today. Should have put us on the friday night game instead of the snore fest that nth dished up. there was a good turnout of red and blue.

By the way the dogs have suddenly found some money to give a away some good prizes for there home games. They gave away a cairns cruise for 4 nights for there game up there and also gave away a home entertainment system. All we give away is anew balance shoes and a signed footy.

I'm glad they didn't! That would've been a 4 day turnaround!

It probably won't happen but we really should be getting more exposure in better time slots next year. We're winning games, playing an entertaining brand of footy, and have some genuine future stars. It's that sort of thing that will help us bring in better sponsors.

Interesting stats -

231 Kicks to 198 handballs v Dogs (win)

199 to 179 v Pies (win)

239 to 204 v Suns (win)

178 to 193 v Kangas (loss)

213 to 207 v Crows (win)

193 to 237 v Hawks (loss)

240 to 179 v Bombers (win)

We still make a few poor decisions with over handballing, even today, but we clearly play our best footy when our kick to handball ratio is positive.

Look at the ratio of our last 2 losses!

It's a chicken-and-egg thing though, isn't it?

I mean, do we lose because we overuse the handball, or do we overuse the handball because we're losing (and therefore under pressure)?

You obviously don't listen to Carey especially on AFL.com previewing the rounds games nothing ever gd comes out of his mouth about the Dees plus on talking footy. I know what I've heard no victim hood hear.

Didn't like the comment that Johnson made about "Harmes still standing at the moment" either on Fox

What an amazing 4 quarter effort. Defensively we were phenomenal. And offensively we smashed them.

Tom McDonald was amazing in the ruck, and the backline was faultless. Best 12 possession game you'll ever see from Jetta. If he's not in All Australian contention the competition is a joke.

Hard to fault anyone today but I would like Bugg and Harmes to learn to kick set shots!

P.S.- after pulling out last minute from attending the North game, today was another one for the perfect winning record when the boyfriend turns up to watch us play...now to work out a way to drag him along to every game...

WOW WOW AND WOW WE BULLIED THE BULLIES   cant wait to see the game tomorrow night

You cannot see the ground from that aquaduct beside Cazalys, so not much of a first prize....

Wow went ot the game today and was not expecting that at all. WE just dominated for 4 quarters and never let the dogs back in it. Our pressure was just outstanding. Even in the final moments of the game we were still hunting and tackling. Gee if we could bring that every game it would be fantastic.

Agree O scar had his best game today. Still makes me a bit nervous when he kicks the ball but his hands were great.

But loved Watts kicking that goal at 1/2 time and Tommy kicking his goal on 3/4 time.

I just loved everything about today. also now we have won 3 times at etihad and we have finally beaten the dogs after all these years.

also great turnout by dees fans. Made lots of noise and I got in late but could hear the noise from inside and thought the dogs have scored but it was actually us.

By the way how weird did it fell just sitting there all calm and actually enjoying the footy because we were in such control. It makes a nice change.

Well we did beat them in 2015.

But in that same year they beat us by 98 points at Etihad and looked a different league to us. I know they've achieved much more than us since then but footy changes so fast. Hard to think as recently as two years ago that Oliver, Petracca and Hunt hadn't played a game between them.

O Mac!

Fantastic win. What a great feeling expecting a win and having it delivered.

we got the result that playing 4 quarters of relentless footy brings.

we're as good as anyone in the comp if we keep the pedal to the metal now

Maybe the scheduling of the game by the AFL should be more under the spotlight rather than the Melb supporters who generally have been amazing this year...but really 1 game on a Sunday (no FTA coverage) an they schedule it for 3.20. Make it 1 pm and you would have got another 5k there

Spot on mate.
Late games on sunday are just shocking for those travelling in from the bush.
Morso with kids in tow.

What I liked is that we somehow managed to play 4 quarters of football after only 3 quarters...

Best win of the year.  Most complete performance we have had in a long time and it was so good to watch.

We beat the Dogs up at their own game and made them look second rate.  We are physical, our pressure is unbelievable and we can beat ANYONE in the competition.

If you can find a negative out of that then you are looking in the wrong place.  Everyone played their role and everyone gave something positive.

And great psyche out from Tommy Bugg.  The boy knew what he was doing!

Out of all you're posts (nearly 6.5 thousand of em) this would have to be one of the best.

We're a threat if we believe we are.

Our midfield has been one of the top few in the league and will soon challenge GWS for outright best.

And this has been with no ruckman, with the best one in the country to return this week. How good will our rising midfield be with Gawn giving them silver service?

Serious question was asked on the radio...."is Melbourne now the toughest team in the Afl?"....never thought id hear the day.

It used to be asked quite regularly during the Daniher and especially Northey eras.  Certainly makes a difference when opposition not only respects you but even fears you. I think we are getting close to that now, and further performances like today will enhance that, even leading leading pundits like David King to suggest we should be considered serious contenders for the flag especially when messrs Hogan and Gawn come back. Was also delighted to hear Goodwin confirm Max's return next week, jesse still 2-3 weeks away.

Looks like they will all be on the park for the Swans. Let's hope the Swans drop a game in the meantime.

Geez. I hope you went. Don't really need to rubbish the supporters after such a terrific win.

Well said, plenty of noise coming from us today. Nothing wrong with the crowd,  historically these two teams don't draw well anywhere.

Watched live in Washington. 1.20am start so I had been for a good dinner and a couple of wines. Loved the way we played from the first bounce. Pressure all over the ground at both the ball and the man. Throughout the games we must have pulled off 6 or 7 run down tackles. Loved that.

tough to get to sleep after that

have now had a sleep and have watched my first replay of the game. Even better second time around.

Two things

Nev Jetta is chiselled out of rock, the Moorditj on the back of my jumper positively glowing

And there is a guy called Macca at the club, if you see him shake his hand, told me weeks ago that Omac was starting to put it together and was driving him on

Testament to the quality of the game we had is that the AFL stats show Jetta as our lower ranked player.

Agree we can beat anyone on our day Wise, and yes we came to play today.

Wayne Bennett (very successful rugby league coach for those that don't know) was the master of finding negatives in great wins and the positives in defeat.

My negative would be, and this has been the case all year, and that is too many occasions when we tackle the opponent they are still able to get a handball away. This seems to run through the majority of the side, it may not of cost us today but it's an area that I believe needs addressing. Group tackles are different and something we also do a lot off.

I would add there were a lot of smothers in the 1st qtr which was great to see and really set the tone for the day.

Rugby league?  give a [censored].

do you really?

One of his best games ever I'd say. 1 on 1 he was outstanding every time.

Oh forgot as well. Nev Jetta is fast becoming a reliable defender and very underrated. Just love how he has bounced back from a few years ago.

Welcome to 2014.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
