Coburg v Casey Scorpions

I'm going early with this week's VFL games on account of the fact that for Melbourne fans, they're the only games in town and it looks as if there will be a much stronger Demon contingent than there has been over the past month or so.

The three players omitted from the Gold Coast Suns game would be in line for selection at Casey although the selectors might decide not to play Christian Salem who was out through suspension. However, Dean Kent and Sam Weideman should play.

Based on the MFC's "official" injury list from last week, the additions to the side to come from this list should be Corey Maynard (concussion) and Tim Smith (ribs/punctured lung) who were both declared available last week. Jake Spencer could be the other possibility for a return if he comes up from his shoulder injury. There are still a few players who are still a fair way off returning.

Congratulations to Casey captain Jack Hutchins and this year's big improver Bayley Fritsch on representing the VFL against the WAFL at the weekend. Fritsch was named in the best players in a losing team. Unfortunately, he is out this week.

Teams to be loaded following selection.

Weather looking good for Sunday... might go along.

Is there a special item of cuisine for which Coburg Oval is famous a la the Casey bacon and egg roll.

Are the players who played in Alice Springs eligible for selection. Some of the fringe players might benefit from a hit out.

I think Salem should play - he's had his week off.

Good for you.

Been there once, on official duties, dreadful day, shocking traffic, shizen rooms, and avarage catering.

I think it was 2010!

Tempting to be there though!!

Thanks PF

hopefully the continued gentrification of Coburg (is it now west Northcote or North Brunswick) has added to the culinary delights

Notwithstanding should be a fun day of footy as we remember it from so many years ago

As you say.. tempting and let's hope a good crowd comes along

I wish this game was televised.

Just around the corner from me here in Hipster Central, might just drop in with my 3/4 long black and cronut.

Coburg is hipster central? Times have changed.

Falafels, kofte, kebabs and strong short blacks - organic and single origin of course.

Hulett now only has to play on a wing or rove to have covered every position in the team!

I know he's been played down back before, but I'm wondering if the FD are thinking he may replace OMac at some stage. Doubt he'll be needed forward any time soon with Hoges, Pedo and Watts there.

Pretty sure they see him as a project swingman in the Pedersen mold.  If he can develop into that sort of player hell be handy.

No, I'm in Thornbury.

Not that close to Coburg i would have thought - but the hipsters do like to be seen getting their falafels and multi cultural vibe up the Coburg end of Sydney road!

I lived in Thornbury for several years in te early 2000s and it wasn't hipster central yet. But you could tell it was not far away. had to laugh the other day reading about the hipster fungas spreading up high Street to and across Bell Street into Preston - an area that a long way from hipsterville when i lived in Thornbury

Hi does Out= Omitted or include out for injuries or resting?

Surprised to see Fritsch "out". (assuming Out= Omitted) He has had several good games this season and is a good forward mark.

Also what does Out mean re Filipovic. Cannot make the Development league team has to be  a worry if he was omitted.

I get the feeling he might be in a bit of trouble.

Next suburb in fact - (3 kms along the Merri Trail). Not too many hipsters anywhere in the early 2000's BTW.  Comment was mean't in a jovial manner as in fact I am the least Hipster person you could meet (I don't even own an IPad).  I do live behind Courtney Barnett though so I guess that makes me Hipster by association!.

I don't think you can take those player positions literally - Mitch King in the ruck excepted.

Yes i assumed you were joking. But to paraphrase my favourite film, only a true hipster would deny his hipstervinity. And not having an ipad is post rock ironic and therefore proves your hipster credentials. Do you ever shop at the organic shop in Thornbury village?

Out just means out. Injured/omitted/promoted to seniors/rested all covered.

Plapp's reports have been encouraging on Filipovic's progress - unfortunately it would seem he is injured this week.

He's got a Walkman for sure!

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
