Jack played a great game today and appears to be working back into form the past few weeks. 30+ touches, but it was the 15 tackles and 8 clearances that had an impact. I just wish some of his mates shared his work ethic and intensity out there today!

I wish most of our supporters had the long-term vision and patience with this guy; rather than the quick SEN-type dumb conclusion-jumping carp that captaincy killed him.

From memory he had a hip or groin operation during the summer & didn't start pre season until half way through? I would have thought that was part of the reason he has started slow. What I don't get is how people have been so quick to judge him after the season he had last year. I still remember his first game for the club where he was pretty much carrying the team on his back. If there is anyone on our list you can put your faith in with regards to effort & dedication it would be Jack. Not to mention not ever taking a backward step in any circumstance.

Well the Jack Viney we know and love is back.
30 touches, 12 tackles and a goal. Another great game by him. He appears to have his pace back and the aggression and intensity around the ball is fierce. He's returned to his 2016 form and that's a big bonus for us. Hopefully he can maintain this form for the remainder of the year and continue to build on his leadership skills.

The questions of the co-captaincy have gone to ground for a bit. Funny that. Jack has been brilliant the last few weeks and serviceable in the first few weeks, despite struggling to get as much of the ball. His tackling and pressure work all season has been first class. Now he's got his offensive game back and it makes our midfield A grade when Oliver, Tyson and Jones are playing well, supported by Lewis and Salem.

He has been immense the last 2 weeks. The same sort of footy he played the first 7 or 8 weeks of last year.

And I counted two right foot kicks last night from Jack.

It's interesting. We seemed to be emphasising using either foot a lot during the pre season and we used this to our advantage really well in the St Kilda game.

Since then, we've gone away from it. Need to start being more unpredictable and it more importantly enables us to move the ball quicker.

I officially retract my questions about jacks handling of the captiancy, he's been Selwood like in the way he's played and looks like dragging the team over the line in the last two weeks! Jack is an absolute monster and his return to top form is huge for the club

His hip's bothering him less. I'm convinced that's what it was. I feel like they knew, and had it as a thing they knew they'd have to cope with for the first month of the season. The most ferocious player in the competition. We have not seen such a bulldozer at the Dees. I don't remember Barassi that well. He must have been similar in his determination. Viney is up there with Sellwood and the former Swan, Paul Kelly.

The thing I love is that he genuinely does put the fear of God into opposition. We haven't had that really since Balls Grinter, Steve O'Dwyer or Viney Senior (who was tough but wasn't the type who could intimidate based on a few quietly whispered words). 

I will always remember his comeback to Selwood in 2015 after he told Chunk he was the worst captain in the AFL: 'What's the matter? Why do you keep bleeding?' lol

And if I remember correctly, he wasn't even playing on Sloane. Prior to the bounce he'd moved over to his man and someone else had picked him up, presumably Bernie.

When he's on, he's my favourite to watch. Straight ahead juggernaut through congestion. Little burst away and we're out. It's refreshing from the often too much [censored] around. 

Had to be something up with him earlier this year.

The hip must have been limiting him until the past few weeks. His first month was ordinary. He didn't have the speed to get out of congestion, wasn't getting to as many contests, wasn't showing his trademark aggression and intensity. It would have been nice to see him try to lead more vocally during this period and organise players around stoppages etc. He just went completely into his shell and barely gave a yelp.
In the Essendon game he was doing some odd looking hip stretches in between quarters and while waiting for centre bounces etc. The hip was clearly limiting him, but his burst of speed and general intensity has now returned. Now that he is able to perform the way he wants out there his voice has also returned, laying into opposition players and organising players at stoppages. Great news for Jack and the team if he can stay healthy and in good form for the remainder of the season.

So pleasing to see him back at full flight, he's such a competitive beast. Viney, Oliver and Petracca rotating through the middle is a frightening prospect for any team.

Not sure if this has been mention before or not? Sorry if it has, last year on SEN Mahoney was speaking about Jack and said that would get all the first year players and sit down with and go through their game they had just played. Said he didn't have to do it but he did it on his own with out any one making him do it.

That made me love him even more after hearing that and that is why bad games or good games i love Jack Viney and have number 7 on the back of my jumper.

Any side that is up against this trio in form is going to struggle to control the contest and win a hard ball.

Just finished watching Jack Viney's 'On The Couch' appearance.

That was by far his most polished performance in front of the cameras. I found myself smiling throughout the entire interview simply due to the growth of the man.

Jack has never really been a natural in this area, but tonight i saw vast improvement. He was cool, calm & measured with a lot of honesty & frankness about it. He speaks it how he sees it... but with a lot more maturity these days.

The kids not a boy anymore. We're in great hands.

This decision is 100% on Simon Goodwin so if it hurts jack it hurts him

Sole captain today for the first time. He seemed to handle it pretty well.
