Congratulations to The Bull, Tim Smith.

This was predicted on last nights Demonland Podcast which can be streamed or downloaded here: http://demonland.com/Podcast *

Why not!

Good luck to him. Kept at it and will play his first AFL game. Reward for perseverence.

Hope he gets showered with gatorade in the rooms after the game.

Well done Bull! He wont die wondering the way he attacks it and I reckon he'll have an impact too

Well done Bull and nice to see the number 38 back.

Nice Bull! Great news. Can't wait to see him tear Geelong's defence to shreads. 5 goals on debut sounds nice.

Does anyone remember Kim Smith who played for the Dees in the mid 70's. He was a prolific goalkicker for Prahran in the old VFA, and was recruited by the Dees. Only lasted one season, before heading back to Prahran. Tim is following a similar path to Kim, but hopefully has a more distinguished career.

4 games in 1975, apparently. You must have the memory of an elephant.

Me thinks that Pedo wouldn't be so happy about this.

I was an avid follower of the VFA, and Kim Smith was a star. We were devoid of success, so I hoped that he'd be our saviour. It was not to be.

And there was Peter Smith wh0 was going to bolster up our  forward line in the 1966 season.

My apologies. Didn't think they'd play him. I was wrong. Not totally convinced we shouldn't just be going smalls around Watts and Weideman, but time will tell. Congrats, Smithy.

I'm a big Pedo fan but you'd have to say he won't feature much in Goody's plans and seems to only be on the list to make up numbers and for depth. It's a shame because I think he can play. He's not a champion but he's certainly not a dud.

Good luck Tim, big shoes to fill, Glad to see you picked up No. 38 as well, hope that you snag a few for the Dee's. go Tim, Go Dee's!!!!

People here said the same thing about Jetta, horses need to be held.

Part of what I like about him is he just knows where he sits. He has stuck around on the list and seems very happy to play that backup role. Doesnt pout when he goes out of the team and always gives as good as he gets when he comes into the team. It takes a good character to do that.

Has Smith been upgraded from the rookie list...

Great to see the club give an ex Casey player a go at AFL - will be enormous encouragement to others on their list.  May even attract a few to Casey!

Well done Smithy.

Big game for Weideman and our forward line as not much experience there.  Watts and Garlett need to play like the senior players they are.

Congrats to Smith.

Agree with you Lucifer, the Weed would do well to have a breakout game. Love to see him take 8 marks and kick 4 goals

When Weeds took that strong front of the pack overhead mark early in the Blues game I was hoping that that was going to be the breakout game. It's bound to come and I'd love for it to be against the cats.

YES BULL!!!!! So glad to see the big man get his shot this early in the season! The amount of hard work he has put in over the last 5-6 years has really paid off for him. Really happy for Tim.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
