Yes. He's in a better side. Conversely the side is better for him being in it.

The comparison is there because quite simply it is. It's been part of this discussion for along while and is nothing new.

Part of the Omac critique over the journey was to compare him to the likes of Lever even before it seemed a possibility that Lever may indeed be on our radar and a possible get. At this point it gained another dimension.

It would , I agree , be more than likely that Omac will develop  into a role somewhat augmented than the one he is charged with currently. He sort of needs to.

Lever is already quite accomplished. I see no reason why he would plateau.

All reasonable points. I agree it is likely lever will continue to improve but it none the less as i say it is not inconceivable he might plateau

According to AFL site "Trengove of Port Power has spent the past two weeks in the SANFL, where he has been best on the ground in both games. The former Calder Cannon has attracted interest from Victorian clubs, most notably the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne, with his ability to play at both ends of the ground and as a pinch-hitting ruckman making him an attractive target.". He is a restricted free agent.

So are MFC hedging their bets hoping for Lever or Trengove for down back? I doubt they want both.

27 in november. would be a good (cheap) pickup regardless of lever

You can? So if Frost says I want to go to Adelaide we can't do a trade he ends up back in the draft? Is that how it works?

Yes. If a trade breaks down, the player has a few options. (With examples)

1. National Draft. (Luke Ball to Collingwood)

2. Pre Season Draft. (Nick Stevens to Carlton)

3. Sign with current club. (Dustin Martin potential move to GWS)

4. Delisted / Retire.

Mal Michael retired and was then drafted in the preseason draft by Essendon. This resulted in Brisbane being shafted without any compensation. Pretty sure the delisted free agency rules were written with this in mind and the player cannot be signed as a free agent if there was a contract offered by the current club. Happy to be proven wrong on the last point.

No way Adelaide accepts Gibbs and a 2nd rounder for Lever you're dreaming. Only way that 3way trade gets up is if we give up at least a 1st rounder as well and perhaps Carton also send a 2nd rounder the Crows way

Overs.

So Crows get Watts, our first rounder (about pick 9) and Carlton's 2nd rounder (about pick 21) for Lever? Isn't that better than the Dangerfield trade, which was 9, 28 and Gore?

Yes, I know Danger was a RFA, but remaining OOC near trade time is also a major risk for any club.

Lever still has an entire career ahead of him. Crows get Gibbs not Watts. Gibbs is close to the end.

Yes, you are correct. Still think it's overs

It's gonna look awkward if the Crows win the Flag and then lose Lever and McGovern.

You can probably add Charlie Cameron to Brisbane as well.

I agree. Lever is not worth two 1st rounders IMO. 1st and a 3rd would suffice.

Would our first rounder and dean Kent get it over the line?

Lever was named at CHB in the AFLPA Under 22 squad today.

While not making the 22, Oscar McDonald was named in the squad of 40.  They could combine to form a super backline for the next 10 years.  We'll just have to put up with 10 years of STMJ talking about him in every thread.

Talking about them both. Deifing one. Vilifying the other.

I hope I'm speaking for everyone in this thread, but I for one will get around STMJ with any anonymous emotional support he needs if this doesn't come to fruition.

Are you sure about the final 22? This is from an article posted today on the MFC site:

Now in its fifth year, 22Under22 is the industry’s only recognised fan-voted award and provides the footy public with the power to select the final 22.

Fans can now visit 22under22.com.au to cast their vote, before the final team is revealed at the AFL Players’ MVP Awards on Tuesday September 12.

Fans who submit a team that matches the final 22Under22 team will automatically go into the draw to win an AFL Players' prize pack.

Voting closes on Wednesday September 6, 2017.

Maybe i should do bot spam for TMac's younger brother

That's how i thought it worked jnr, i may be wrong. I thought a players contract expired after trade period so we had a chance to trade the out of contract player before the drafts If we dont make a trade the player is then free to leave the club and put themselves in the national & Pre Season drafts

A simple 3 way trade

Melbourne Out: 1st round pick

Melbourne In: Lever

Carlton Out: Bryce Gibbs

Carlton In: 1st round pick

Adelaide Out: Lever

Adelaide In: Gibbs

* throw our 2nd rounder to sweeten the deal for Adelaide

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
