He’s currently in one of the most spectacular parts of the world according to Insta. He needs to enjoy it before the drab Burgo interviews start coming his way.

Tex Walker is such a hypocrite. Claims in AFL article that Gibbs has taken a pay cut to come home rather than an increase like Lever. Hey Tex, helps if you don't insult an 21 yo AA squad member by offering $350k off the bat.

Also digs at Lever and Cameron:

"Walker did not waste his latest chance to have a none-too-subtle dig at Lever and possibly also Cameron.

"Sam Gibson and Bryce Gibbs, they don't only bring talent; they bring hard work, leadership and (are) great characters," Walker said.

"That's what we like to get at our football club. I rate people with leadership and character."

Haha! Like a character that gets pizzed watching the footy when dropped like you in your youth?

It is an elite spine, if only Oscar was not being considered. The number of times he has lost possession or failed to gain possession is quite wrenching. The whole backline, centres and deep forward lines are elite, at last. Bring on the 2918 season. Just about to send in my MFC membership renewal, too.

Wow!  I won't be alive - Hope we don't have to wait this long??

Walker is really only damaging his own reputation by persisting with this line of trash talking his ex-teammates.

To have gone thru the Phil Walsh tragedy showing some real leadership and camaraderie to this,  being a bitter and vindictive Club captain surely can’t be enamouring himself to his other teammates.

Seems like a bit of a boys club over at the Crows where it’s okay for Dangerfield and probably Sloane to leave next year, escaping any criticism.

Melbourne lost Scully for about the same differential amount per year as Adelaide lost Lever and nobody (as in Melbourne players) are begrudging him in taking the money.

Tex just needs to get over it and understand that sometimes players want what the market price is for them; it is fine for him to make that sacrifice, but he cannot make it for Lever.

Hopefully we win a flag by 2918! I’d like to see one in my life time, and preferably not have to find a way to live 900 years for that to happen

Bit of talk going around that young Jake is on $650,000. Good coin for a 21 year old, but certainly not going to throw things out of whack too much.

The crows spreading it around that he is on $ 900000.

I wonder if his manager is telling him to Shut up, or the players Union has told him to shut up, its the players that have been pushing for more player movement.

Who cares what he's on, help us win a flag Jakey.

Take a look at the ‘circumstances’ in which Walker got to his beloved Crows....

Hypocrite of the highest order.

No other team had the chance to draft him and if they did he’d be the first to request a trade to Adelaide if he had the chance.

Plus the fact that there’d be no go home factor to Broken Hill anyway....

Talk around town that our first game next year will be v Adelaide Crows.

I'm looking forward to Tex and Jake lining up against each other.

I'm hoping not.

I'd like to have an annual Round 1game Saturday arvo vs Collingwood at the G with the QB return. Split both gates

The Pies have formally requested this. The proposal is tied to alternating the QB match and the season opener each season.

You know you're doing something right when the pies are requesting 2 matches a year against you

Whispering_Jack raises an interesting point about playing the Crows vs Dees, first round. What a clash of two worlds! Lining Jake up to out-Lever the Texan Dunderhead would be classic retribution and may provide an avenue for true justice in this two-club circumstance. Lever has the mobility and talent to do this from half-back flank, where I might prefer to see him play; I'd reckon ol' Frosty might be a better bloke at centre-half back but who knows? Then again, poetry takes many forms: I remember the very sad moment when Balmey positioned and held the Big Nick against the Tigers at the 'G, and suddenly a perfect line was enabled for that very talented Tiger, Lawry Fowler, to both operate and anaesthetise Big Nick in the same split second. Jake owes Tex one, Frosty might be the ideal compatriot; however, the MFC is above this sort of thing; be better to see it all on the scoreboard, after the game.

Tex is all for easier player movement and more money for the players, just not when it goes against his club. Funny that....

? what number are we thinking about giving Jake? Surely he takes the number 9 ? Don't, under any circumstance, give him 4 or 31..cursed numbers at the MFC

Re Gibbs: Easy to take a paycut when youve been earning 500-600k for 5 years and 400 or so the 5 years earlier and have probably made smart financial investments. A career ending injury wont put a dent in his bank account. And Tex taking a paycut? Easy to do when you've got a career lined up post-footy due to captaincy and ironically getting a payed radio spot (Outside the cap) to spout this nonsense.

Tex is a fool if he thinks that their underpayment policy was going to work for a kid that gets rival offers that value his ability and get him to come home.  Easier to point the blame at others, rather than your own salary cap manipulating tactic coming back to bite you in the ass.

I reckon lever gets the number 9

Tex Walker is really just a yobbo.

If he was real captain material he should have led his side to flag by example instead of squibbing so many important contests on the big day.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
