Dees aren't going to give up overs for this kid.

Tom Mitchell was traded for pick 14, omeara pick 10 and 2018 second round, hibberd pick 29, Lachie Henderson future first round pick, Prestia pick 6.

lever isn't better than any of the above.

melbournes first round pick this year should do the deal and at worst 2nd round next year.

im glad some of the posters here are not deciding the future of the club.

He's better than both of those...

Okay, okay, OKAY!

Not only is he better, he's significantly younger. Lever will play next year as a 22 year old. Prestia was 24 this year, Henderson 27. So he should be good for 50 more games than Prestia, and 100 more than Henderson. Plus we're gonna hopefully have a pick around 12 or 14 - hardly a priced top 5 or 10 pick. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see how you can offer a 22 yo $800k a year and not cough up a 1st and 2nd rounder.

Wow, that was weird.

Anyway, I'm not really bothered if we don't get a first round pick -- if Viney, Taylor, et al continue to pick up gems like Hannan later in the draft, I couldn't care less whether we have a first rounder this year or not.

Culture & environment are so much more important than where you sit in the eyes of "experts" as a 17 year old.

I also don't mind if we trade them both away.
Only going to be mid-teen picks and our window is now/next year/next decade.
As long as we get guns for our picks I believe we have enough core youth to be able to sacrifice a couple of drafts for trading purposes and bolster our side while we are attractive.

Also a first-rounder and Frost is the least we will have to give IMO anyway. Any club would swap pick 1 for him now and pick11(?) plus Frost I personally would laugh at.

I think you would find neither the lions or blues would give up pick 1 for Lever if they were in a position to get him. Martin yes, Lever no.

Lever at this point is still a largely unproven kid who plays loose on the 3rd tall and takes a good intercept mark. I'm fairly sure he will turn into a fine player but it's hardly a given that he will be A grade let alone the next big thing.

Look at Scully for an example he left us on big money was meant to be a marquee player for gws, there was no reason not to expect big things from him, and while he has been solid I would hardly call him a star, what makes Lever such a sure thing in comparison that anyone would give up so much.

Based on the interview with peter Jackson when asked about lever he refused to confirm our interest but said " it's exciting that players want to come to the mfc, it's our goal to be a destination club"

reading between the lines I think he's ours if we can satisfy a trade for he crows

Oops sorry..a posting problem!

Well if today is anything to go by, Lever can't get here fast enough. Our backline is getting hammered.

A hypotheical -

If Jake has already committed to us verbally behind the scenes, can he change his mind? Is anything legally binding if no contract has been signed?

Of course he can.

Think Mitch Clarke freo/us.

He probably has.

Farken.

He'll fit in well into our backline.. That horrible chip kick up the middle in the last 5 minutes that results in Lewis Jettas goal on Sunday

After R23 I've suddenly gone a bit cold on him. Reckon he's signed with Carlton after that game.

Nope. See the NBA deandre Jordan to the mavs said he was going there but never signed. Ended up getting persuaded to resign with his team.

If plugging that gaping hole in the midfield with an outside gun means we miss out on him, then so be it.

Otherwise, absolutely.

Yeah I don't know about this right now. Not saying he wouldn't be good but just not sure at this stage.

Be ready for this thread to go nuts again....

Ridge from Bold and the Beautiful wont be happy that Jake is taking the limelight. Seriously as if they know what his intentions are.

wtf? got a link??

Was the same guy (or gal). However does have some runs on the board, but then again so would I if I made 100 predictions a season.

He is an insider, same as McClure, Barrett etc. so who knows what's going on but it does feel like Lever is gone and all the mail is he is heading to us bar Waldron. Plus with McGovern signing as predicted it just passes the sniff test

No doubt that we'll be knee deep in it and here is hoping he is keen.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
