There is talk about using Tyson as part of the trade bait to get Lever,

No there isn't. If Tyson were to be traded, it would be to a Victorian club.

Updated version of article:  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-08-08/it-never-happened-crow-lever-denies-meeting-dees

From original article:  IN-DEMAND Adelaide star Jake Lever has denied reports he met with Melbourne officials.

  • "I never met with Melbourne," Lever told radio station FIVEaa on Tuesday.
  • "That's a rumour I just laugh at.
  • "It never happened."

I do not detect any spin, hedging or camouflage in Lever's comments.  And, he doesn't seem the type to outright lie.

He isn't coming to the Demons.

Sad that he laughs at the rumour/prospect of coming to our beloved Demons.  I hope that isn't typical of the players we may be targetting.

Edit:  the updated article gives a slightly different angle on what he said.  He seems will entrenched in Adelaide with a weekly radio spot.

Sounds like he is just laughing off the rumours, not necessarily laughing at the prospect of coming to us.  He would probably say the same thing if the rumour was about him meeting with Collingwood or the Dogs.

Not surprised that it didn't take place, though.  Seems a little unprofessional to me, plus the Crows are flying at the moment and are a big chance of winning it all.  You would at least wait until the season is done before really looking at your options.

Thought exactly the same thing.

Unusual for players.....  not unknown for managers

All very odd..and fluffy

The circus ain't in town yet !

WGAS.

We've got Oscar.

I'd actually be kind of glad if he hadn't met with us yet. I think it says a lot about a person's character if they are directly talking to other clubs in the middle of a premiership tilt. Leave it to the managers

I wouldn't trade all the "good stuff" in TWSNBN for Lever.....

His name escapes me, but the news breaker guy on SEN this morning who is usually pretty good said categorically that the meeting happened.

If that is true it makes young Jake a liar - he denied it on air in Adelaide.

The most practical time to have 'met' was in Darwin.  Maybe a casual beer with mates (eg Petracca) after the game in someone's hotel and the likes of Goodwin and Viney walk in and say 'hi' and have a 'get to know chat'.

Maybe that is a 'meeting' to a journo but not a 'meeting' to young Jake.  For now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as after Scully I detest blatant liars.

I recall Kurt Tippet saying similar things on radio and we know how that ended up.

But would you imagine the reaction if he said "yes I met with Melbourne and considering their offer".  He would always deny it if he or his "Manager" met with the Club.

Either way I would be surprised if he left.

Adelaide play Toigs this week, any thing to unsettle Flag Favorites by supporters to get an edge.....

Adelaide play Essendon and we want the Crows to win.

I feel as though if the meeting did not happen, Goodwin and co. would have come out blatantly saying it did not happen. However, though he did not acknowledge it happened, he gave a very systematic answer that did not deny it and Jones voiced words that were nearly exactly the same. Goodwin doesn't muck around with the media and if it didn't happen, he wouldn't have made his answer so ambiguous.

SHeet, sorry, probably same reason though....

Why bother chasing a (soon to be) All Australian defender when we already have one.

Put Tom McDonald back to the backline and instead of going after Lever go and get Patton/Lobb.

Jetta OMac Frost

Hibberd TMac Hunt

Brayshaw Jones Vince

Petracca Hogan Melksham

Garlett Patton/Lobb Watts

Gawn Oliver Viney

Lewis Hannan Salem Tyson

Looks ok to me...

We have a good trade history with GWS, only think is it won't come cheap. Have to be realistic can't offer Pederson for either of them.

Weideman and a late first round pick?

Only a dumb club would trade Weid when he is a 2nd year key fwd with potential. He's worth more to us going ahead than his value now on the open market.

I'd much rather Kelly or Devon Smith or Kennedy or Hopper from GWS than Patten or Lobbe. We are still badly short of quality mid depth, particularly outside quality.

Dont get me wrong, Lever would be a good get, but I'd wet my pants if we got Kelly.

Football is lies- of course he's gonna deny it, his team is top of the ladder about to launch an assault at the cup.

Was just thinking similarly, maybe the media is misinformed about the circumstances about their "meeting". Could've just been "coincidentally" running into each other and goodwin happened to get Levers thoughts on footy for next year

The price for Kelly will be astronomical. I have a bet with my brother over who will finish higher in the Brownlow, I backed Oliver he took Kelly and he probably has me beat.

Imagine the price we would put on Oliver...

Oliver, Petracca and Kelly in the midfield.

Talk about the perfect blend.  Three young superstars all with their own rare and incredible skillsets.

Ok Ill stop dreaming now....

Wish we drafted him back in the day, that draft will go down as a super draft with him, Truck, Gus, Heeney and going to fruition.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
