Maybe the only positive is that both players will hopefully come back better than ever and play with a much stronger thirst to pay back their teammates for letting them down, with some greater contributions than they previously wouldve made

Just watched him on 360 and while he didn't say what led up to it there was clearly something that did. The way that Viney went after Cripps too suggest that it had been building. Lewis's response suggests that he knows that he did something stupid but he's not remorseful. Interesting. Guess we will never know the lead up. Can't excuse Lewis. He was dumb enough to get sucked in.

Luey said he'd be spending the next three matches in the coaches box.  I like it, but not as much as I'd like it if he was out on the field.

it technically might have been off the ball, but in both cases the players involved were each pushing/niggling each other so it's not like it was sniping or hit from behind.   for what it's worth, although intentional, i don't believe either of them meant to actually strike the head.

He is a leader. He did the same at the Hawks (as does hodge) and was a leader there and did alright

imo we would not have won without Lewis's aggression on Sunday

While it would have been better for him not to be given a 3 week suspension, what he did was help to lead the team back from the brink.  Cripps was dominating at the time and the Blues were well on top.  Lewis (and Viney) clobber Cripps (yes, Lewis could have done it differently) and it sparks a bit of melee.  The end result?  It puts the Blues off their game a little, swings the momentum and we kick 7 of the next 9 goals and win the game.  Co-incidence?  Possibly, probably likely, but I still think Lewis summed up the situation and realised something needed to be done.  It worked.

Sorry I wasn't having a go at you but venting about Lewis. I don't doubt his value to the side but I didn't like him as a hawk and am having trouble warming to him as one of us.

Really bad timing as Geelong is a huge challenge this week, and Lewis missing the Richmond game isn't ideal.

Once again, if you watch the footage from 3 other cameras, Cripps was giving as good as he got before he 'fell over' like an Italian soccer player.

So it's ok to punch and snipe but if someone retaliates and gets caught the retaliator becomes the criminal.

Interesting to think about if there is really a difference in the two (if you are showing signs of concussion wouldn't that imply that the impact is the same?):

• Vince strikes Wright in head (behind play) and he appears (to their medical staff) concussed and has to go through all the testing for a quarter = 1 week suspension.
• Hogan strikes Rowe in head (behind play), Rowe is fine and plays out game and after the match gets delayed concussion = 2 week suspension.

I'm definitely old school here...our two dills, got in the final "punch". If ya gunna niggle, slap, push, poke, pinch and punch, or even b a smartarse sledger somebody will respond in kind, stupidly for a pro athlete I must admit..... I suppose.....but fairdinkum.... no "you're" right it's wrong.

We'll miss them, but somebody's going too get an opportunity, as well as the TEAM, too prove they're more than capable without the professional dills.

See above - there should be a top level AFL enquiry should these concussed players take the ground this week.  (As there should have been when the concussed Dangerfield played after the Trengove precedent decision.

Yep, gave Brayshaw a cut eye (although later) and punched Watts in the back of the head too. Rowe does it every week.

Couldn't agree more SR, we won the game and we beat a bunch of sooks who were instructed to play the same way the last time we played them, with every opportunity taken to niggle and sly elbow when they went past. So stiff pooperackers!!!!

What was building was Cripps' possession count and influence. Goodwin put the hit out - even mentioned Cripps specifically in his live comments during the break. If I recall correctly, Tmac also took his eyes off the ball at one stage to put some hard contact on Cripps. Lewis may have gone too far but he knew what needed to be done. The MRP knew it as well.
