If fit then Frost comes in for Smith but I have doubts he will be up to mach fitness, if he cant play then I would bring in Bugg and play Lewis longer term down back, leaves us shorter but if we get on top in the midfield it wont matter. I want both Tyson and Kent back in but like I said in the post match thread, with ANB and Hannan both playing well on saturday we might be able to take a safer approach with these two.

On a slightly different note, after last nights very disappointing and kinda overhyped Fyfe - Dangerfield matchup, could we go with the matchup of the future with Oliver and Cripps going head to head? Would be a fantastic contest.

Nobody's form warrants dropping. Tyson will be the only inclusion unless Bernie gets rubbed out and then maybe Kent to come in.

I thought Melky was quite good. Took some good marks in defense and got into the faces of a couple of saints players. Definitely loves a scrap!

Did Casey play on the weekend?

Agreed, he had a decent game and teams well with Jetta and Hunt. He was often the one initiating the switch and firing the ball out wide to Hunt/Jones/Vince etc. Good footy brain and stuck to the gameplan. I love that he elected to bump twice and it worked both times. He definitely adds a hardness and likes to get into the oppositions face and let them know about it. His bump into the second was one of the key moments where you could just see the momentum swinging and the boys were full of confidence in what they were doing.

Not sure what changes to make this week. Smith out injured, do we just bring Tyson in as he is clearly the best player not in the team? Or do we bring in a defender to directly replace Smith? Either way I want to destroy Carlton and make a statement we mean business in 2017!

Anyone still think that Jetta isn't part of Goodwin's plans?

Midfielder Dom Tyson accumulated 24 possessions, 16 inside 50s and kicked two goals in the Demons' 36-point win.

Casey coach Justin Plapp told AFL.com.authat Tyson "performed really strongly" in his third game back from a knee injury.

"He's had a delayed start because of injury … so he's going through the process of building time and we were really happy with his performance," Plapp said.

Ruckman Jake Spencer (28 hit-outs, 10 disposals) and Dean Kent (20 disposals) were other notable standouts in the VFL practice match win.

It wasn't ideal as it meant we couldn't get a third player to the contest quickly enough to help Oscar which at this stage he still needs. 

He is not Talia or Rance and may never be but he will get to the stage where he can win the contest in his own right when 'isolated' by the opposition.

TMac was great on Saturday as usual but the mismatch the Saints were able to generate twice against our zone for goals was Gresham v TMac ground balls.  It's gonna happen.

Good to see the 2 best 22 players seemingly going alright. Id be happy with Tyson to come in off that but would also be happy to give him another run and bring him in super fresh against the Cats. Same deal with Kent. I think he is more valuable than ANB in the forwardline but ANB did enough to let them get more time into Kent before bring him back.

To be fair, I wouldn't want either coming in for their first game against the cats. I understand the "super fresh" philosophy but that's no good if they aren't up with the speed of the game. If they are right to go (and there's a spot available) i'd play them against Carlton to find their feet before the cats.

I reckon Kent in,Smith out injured.

We're going to have a ridiculous amount of ball winning power if Tyson comes in but it's a question of balance - can we play that many midfielders in the one side?

Yeah its a fair call. Selection will be interesting this week. I wouldn't be conserened either way. They could bring them both in and drop someone like ANB and just say that the others are best 22 and there wouldnt be the slightest consern from me. But also another week in the 2s just for the run could be good for them too. My only other thought is they have both got enough experience that the speed of the game shouldn't be a shock to them.

Yes, especially when you have players rotating through the back and forward lines.

Milkshake will play, I thought he was ok and as has been said he's an, in your face player, the kind Goodwin likes and I guess that's why he went after him.

The merry-go-round will continue on the Oscar debate.

O-Mac gets games because: A) Clearly the coaches believe in his long term success and B) We have nobody else on our list as replacement discounting Frost. (Injured).

Therefore he is an outlier in that he will continue to get games, regardless of immediate form. At any other club, he'd be playing reserves on current form I understand this idea doesn't compute for some posters who continue to defend at all costs. 

But it's the fact of the matter.

He is currently nowhere near the required standard.

ANB will not be dropped, the coach was glowing in his praise for him and it would be extraordinary for him to then drop him a week later, he cops a lot on here but he is a good player and fits in with the style of game we are playing.

Not a huge ANB fan, but his JLT form warranted selection, and his performance on Saturday was his best at the club. No way he gets dropped. 

Smith is out, and I reckon that Vince will cop a week for stupidity based on his priors. Frost didn't play for Casey, so I doubt that he'd be considered for Smith. Pedo seems to be out of favour.

We played our best when players lowered their eyes to hit up short targets, or when we broke St.Kilda's zone by going short then kicking the ball long over the back. I'd play Watts up back for Smith, and bring Kent into the forward line. I'd bring Tyson in for Vince, and Lewis and Jones would cover for Vince down back.

Under this plan, who would you play as second ruck when Gawn has a break?

If Watts goes to the backline (which I doubt will happen), I would expect Spencer to play.

Oscar played the last 14 games of 2016 and impressed with his intercepting and work in the contest. McDonald was involved in 41 defensive one-on-one contests and lost just 17% (7) - ranked 2nd at the club behind his brother Tom and seventh in the league in players involved in 30 or more contests. Of his 14 games, he didnt concede a goal to his direct opponent in 6 games and cinceded more than two just once. He averaged 6.5 intercept possessions per game, rated above average for key defenders" AFL prospectus.

 

All of those stats indicate he is clearly at the level, whilst he may have got caught out in the early stages of the game, his next three quarters apart from skill errors were pretty solid defensively. Often in the right spot and rarely beaten after that, of course he made some mistakes, so did alot of our players. But I cant see how anyone watches the 2nd-last quarter and says Oscar McDonald was a liability to the side. He was solid and showed great resilience to bounce back from a poorer start.

There was nothing intentional in the Riewoldt/ Smith incident. Just happened in the run of play. Bad things sometimes happen. Smith will come good as eventually will Riewoldt.

That's my favourite stat ever.

Honestly. What is that telling us? That the opposition are entering our forward 50 an awful lot under little pressure meaning Oscar will be subject to more contests?

I really don't care for much of what the prospectus says because it discounts so many factors/variables that contribute to these isolated stats.  

If someone paid me, I'd review the entire game and look closely at every contest, possession and disposal Oscar was apart of and critically analyse whether it was effective or not. And my memory of what I saw on Saturday tells me that he contributed far more inneffective pieces of play compared to effective ones.

All I imagine that you and others would see is an elementary spoil made against his opponent and go on to congratulate him on a solid game.
