Michael Hibberd Injured

It's a shame and we really have to hope he's right for round 1 because he could be very important at Etihad. At the same time we can't risk further injury and have to get him right long term. He's had a lot of injuries and a year off might have freshened up some of his body but getting back in to full time training and games might not be that easy for him either.

In some ways the good news is it sounds like a contact injury and not just his body breaking down so it might come good pretty quickly. It sure sounds like the players had a full on session last Friday out at Casey.

Whenever i hear a player has a knock i tend to be suspicious. History tells me they are often a cover up for a more serious injury. My feeling is that he has been nursing and managing this injury for a while now. I think he missed since training early in the preseason also

That was short-lived

My understanding is the injury he has been managing is his knee, that's not his Achilles which is reported as a contact injury. MFCSS.

Just wait for the debate to start up like it did 12 mths ago on the merits of taking these players from Essendrug and the risks that come with it....

I was a little tongue in cheek....a little .

This is a tad worrying. Hibberd is a key component to our surge into the top 8. I hope this doesn't linger.

Fingers crossed this is just precautionary and not something sinister.

Please name one ex Essendon, or more recently, EssenDrug player who has been free of injury and / or performed up to hopes and expectations?

Yes we have had a full examination of the decision previously on here

They are MFC players now and the past is Kaput

Though I continue to be most interested in why Goodwin wanted these two.I think he will be judged harshly should they not perform this year

how do you mean? don't they have a full list? Melksham looks fighting fit as well.

Hibberd is still out for round 1 and more i think. He has obviously strained or torn something. When they use the word 'knock' is basically saying we don't want to tell you too much. A little disrespectful to supporters

Give it a rest. Or are you trolling?

Hibberd has an achilles problem. It will be what it will be.

He didn't trip over his dog?

The rumour about this Achilles strain is that it was first twinged on the cobbled alleyways of Pamplona ,fleeing horned animals.

Could be some bull involved in this rumour.

He is running with it however.

Sorry, must have the wrong thread (which was started by others), I thought the idea was to discuss his injury

Amazing that a bloke who turned up to pre season training in poor condition is now suffering injuries as the season approaches.

He should have been given a rocket prior to Christmas, but we were happy for him to just plod along.

I envisage another Lumumba-style debacle on the horizon with this bloke.

And yes, Goodwin should be held accountable for whatever Hibberd and Melksham do or don't do over the course of their contracts.

Jeepers.

Few things to point out...

How do we know he turned up in poor condition?

How can we relate this guy to lumumba? Lumumba, the guy who once demanded a meeting with Obama? Needed extended leave for the loss of someone he never met? Got detained in south america?

I'll say again.. jeeeepers.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
