It's normal to have that many ruckman, yeah, the other two are very much developing. If Gawn goes down spencer is the back up

Spencer's form has not been good since his VFL return. He may be seeing his last year if he doesn't improve.

Is it possible to rookie him as was done with Petrie?

Great news - reflects what a good year he has had, and he is also excellent cover for us in many areas of the ground.  Deceptively mobile, great hands and knows how to rack up the possies around the ground.  Really happy he is sticking around for another season!

If true then I'm pretty happy about that. Cam offers something pretty different and unpredictable in the ruck and can hold his own up forward.

Good choice choosing him over Dawes. But interesting he came back to pre season overweight. Pretty sill to do that when you are in your last year. But credit to himself for turning [censored] around and stepping up and having a great season. His game on the weekend was brilliant.

also good to read maxy and hunt are expected to sign on as well.

So all the rumours of him going back to WA are incorrect?

Wait....................

stuie must be shattered.

Had forgotten all about that guy.... haven't seen him post in a while....  in fact it coincides with when Pedersen came into the side for Gawn and dominated or a couple of months. He was very lippy up until that point.

Given his outright disdain for Pedders, I wonder if he stopped posting cos he was made to look like such a fool by his great form.

Anyway, no loss, just a thought.

Have a serious Man Crush on this bloke. Great example of  a bloke on his last chance getting the best out of himself , not unlike Nev Jetta.

How many 1 year deals has Pedo signed now,  must be 3 or  4 easily!?

So who is still out of contract?

Great to hear like what Cam can bring. Would like to see him more consistent but that has been harder given the different roles..

See below:  This is the table I update when there are player contract changes.  So come back to this thread any time you want to check player status.

Comments on2017 OOC players:

  • Frost has put off contract talks.
  • Vand is talking about getting ready for 2018 so it looks like he will be recontracted.
  • Vince has said he will go round again and is happy to play at Casey if need be and that seems ok with Goodwin.
  • With Pedersen recontracted and Watts, Tom Mc etc as ruck backup/forwards its hard to see Spencer getting another contract.
  • ANB has played nearly every game so should be recontracted.
  • Keilty and Maynard are playing well so should be recontracted.
  • Would love to see Trengove stay on the list but its hard to see a spot for hiim.

With the $2m windfall in the new CBA there is likely to be a number of OOC 2018 players re-contracted so they can deservedly share in the extra money before other clubs come and try to poach them.

Given Frosty is out of form and just been dropped him putting off contract talks probably wasn’t his smartest idea.

My thoughts exactly. He has probably dropped $100K and a year off his contract in the past month.

I would move on Kennedy, Hulett, White, and Vandenberg, plus Spencer if we can find a decent replacement. The head says Trengove is gone, but the heart won't let go.

I find it interesting that Tim Smith has received a contract for next year, but neither Maynard nor Keilty has. I would take both of those before Smith, irrespective of injury.

Great Table - some games numbers need updating - Maynard - 1, Tim Smith - 2?

Some great lists posted but nobody has mentioned that the spot on our list that we have free as a result of HL's retirement.

ANB and Frost have trade currency

Still no confirmation of this from the club on Pedo, but we'll assume it's announced at a time that suits the club, great news for a very popular clubman.

As far as outs at end of season, delistings for mine would be Kennedy, Lumumba, Trengove, Hulett, and from rookie list White. I'd then upgrade Maynard. Which gives us our 3 draft pick minimum.

Of the OOC's, ANB is the first priority, followed by Frost and Vince, and Mitch King who's effectively in his first year. The others are all touch and go. Keep the rest of the rookies for 1 more year.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
