2+hours craft session

Joel Smith learning bodywork against Maxy and Pencil   fun to watch

Hogan 25 minutes goalkicking practice

Maynard doing stoppage work, bullock

Nev putting Clarry on his arse, not impressed

Watts and Harmes trying to outdo each other on the marking drill with the bag

Watching Macca and Jeff Garlett practicing goal sneak skills

Joel Smith must be disappointed by the third man up rule.

Whay sort of body work was he doing? To contest the ruck?

No,  think they see him as a half back, so needs to know how to defend, Max and Pencil worked him over big time, was getting the hang of body positioning by the end of the drill

There were players coming and going all session, Dom Tyson and Kent out early walking laps

JKH in main group along with Filipovic

3 in rehab ANB King and Hannan

Few on light day, Billy Stretch's seemed to consist of leaning on fence chatting to fitness and support staff after a few kicks and handballs   no issue

Yours or his Saty? I just wondered whether he suggested this to you over the fence.

Seems to be a pattern developing here with Clarry. Coincidence or are some of the leaders making sure he gets a hard time?

I managed to get along and take some fairly average photographs that I will upload later tonight.

Overall, it was a fairly causal session with most players in small groups working on specific skills and drills under minimal pressure.

Succinct as always CB.

Any chance you can elaborate on your observations? I always appreciate your take on things

How did Filipovic look in the main group?

I think everybody's these days RTG, there is never any grey with Macca, no he comes over for a chat before the start of each session, always gives myself and a couple of the other regulars something, today was the mental side of the players, he quoted Lewis at a meeting saying as a playing group we were still 'too nice' when it came to driving each other and setting the bar consistently higher

I'll try my best later when I have more time, I have trouble reading a lot into training sessions, others do it better than me.

God I love the Lewis trade. Demand success, every session, every game. If someone is falling short pull them up on it, the "right" way for that person of course. Brilliant! About [censored] time too.

Looking forward to seeing how the forgotten man goes. Hopefully injury free and he gets a good run at it.

Gone are the days of the lumbering ruckman, athletic, moves well, nice neat skills, didn't look out of place

JKH was bouncing around the whole session, he is not joking about his increased speed, gone up a notch

Not surprised by this.

Mentally switched on teams dont check out in the final round with a 100+ point flogging. They fight every game to the end.

Pleased Lewis is involved.

Saty, by way of comparison, how did Max King look when he first arrived? Obviously for whatever reason King's career didn't progress, but is Filipovic starting from a similar position?

I hope we are not going to play unsociable football.

Weve taken years to build up an image of being absolute wimps.

Max looked a footballer, he was an accurate goal kicker and had a great leap, just lacked the application methinks, Filipove and Mitch King look to have the application and the skills

I like this - The "Hawthorns" don't allow their teammates any leeway - you want the players driving each other and not allowing each oher to put in half arsed efforts

Saty, think you're mitching & maxing here. One of these max's is a mitch but I can't work out which one.

It's important to match your max's & mitch's so they don't get mixed up.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
