Rob Hickmott: played 2 games for the Dee's. I must confess I cannot remember them. But good luck to him and well done on the win today.

Can't remember the Saints game. Pretty sure I was at G for the 127 point loss to North.

Outer was being demolished.

Was in the MFC rooms after the game. Swoop went ballistic - sent Wight and Viney off to lead player discussion and come back and report to him.

Think I recall the Saints game as well. Wet day. Muddy ground. Not out of it at 3/4 time but Winmar tore us up.

Torps in driving rain from 55, 60 then 65 to sink us.

Nothing changed in 26 years.

He and Gudinski...had to have $20 each way...I'm a happy once a year punter (truth be known, I only found out about those connections after the race).

One for the battlers.

Any Billionaire can win the Cup,unless he is Middle Eastern, which makes it a great leveller.

Speaking of levellers,

I still think it is ridiculous to knock down the 96 year old grandstand at Flemington just to build a concrete one, even though Gina Rhinehart took a tumble down the stairs yesterday ,the aftershocks being felt in China and New York.

Nick Williams also deserves credit for falling over and ruining his over-loaded knee, thus forcing his father to battle his hatred of people to accept the Cup in what must be a very boring day for him.He seemed to enjoy the press conference and questioning as much as Mal Meninga did in his political career.

Robert Hickmott deserves congratulations for his training effort.LLoyd has been training him for years and he has rarely missed a session.

After seeing the photo posted above I am pleased he chose an honest job and didn't opt for male modelling.

Me too although I am reliably told that there are major defects in the stand and it is dangerous without a few hundred thousand spent each year to keep it safe.......

Robert Hickmott has now trained as many Melbourne Cup winners as he played games for the Demons.

A stunning achievement.

Lucky Neita doesn't train horses.........

That explains why their drinks and food prices are the most expensive of any race track in Victoria.

God help us after the renos have been done.  Will have to go back to the days of smuggling my drinks in...

Hah.  I sat with my back to the floor of people standing around the TV watching.  I'm sure at least half the 'crowd' don't give a stuff about it and were just watching as a socially accepted way of slacking off for a few minutes.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
