Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A first rounder that got used on Brody Grundy.

We gave up pick 20 and 47 for Dawes and pick 61.

They used pick 20 on Tim Broomhead who has not had a great career to date with only 20ish games.

Grundy was taken with pick 18. Ben Kennedy was pick 19.

I will never forget the tackle Dawes laid in Adelaide and sprinting across the middle of the MCG past Watts to apply defensive pressure while Watts stood idle.

Yes I remember that too. Not Watts finest moment. Those days are long gone, inshallah !!!

Was Taylor or Prendergast our head of recruiting that year. Might have had an influence!

I'm was a big fan of Dawes because of his second and third efforts , his commitment to the contest and what seemed to be his not stop endeavor. But by by his own admission "he was embarrassed" about his time at Melbourne. His body definitely did not let him get the best out of himself, and at the time of trading him in we were struggling to get anyone to come to the club  but the inescapable truth is that he was not a good buy for us.

Keep in mind that a player saying "he was embarrassed" might actually be overly harsh on himself because of impossibly high standards he sets. If Gary Ablett were to say he has been embarrassed by his time at the Gold Coast, would you consider that Gold Coast had made a mistake?

Chris Dawes' time at the MFC served, if nothing else, to show that AFL footballers can be intelligent young men with integrity of the highest order. Not a bad example for our younger boys. Hopefully he has helped to dispel the self-perpetuating myth that AFL players are just one-dimensional meatheads.

Don't think we should underestimate the importance of having a good leader and a good trainer at the club at that time. His willingness to run and tackle set a fine example for all our talls.

If we did lose out - then it might not have been on the trade - but on Gosch's paddock a couple of days after the trade!

Reckon he is a good bloke who should always be welcome at our club.

Don't disagree with any of this, but I think many posters fail to properly acknowledge that his primary roll was to get on the park and play well as a key forward. Some (including me) have been critical of his marking skills, but we always wanted him to be fit and ready for selection.

Nice guy, good leader, tried hard. Couldn't get on the park anywhere near enough. In hindsight was he worth a first round pick? No.

I'm a very modest man OD!

You would have to agree that Dawes was indeed an intelligent guy who came across as being very genuine about wanting to play a part in Melbourne's revival. I think it's unfortunate that injury has prevented us from seeing what he might have had to offer. I'm disappointed with those on here who denigrate without taking into account the bigger picture.

As for the modest percentage, my point is that the stereotype tends to be self-perpetuating in that young lads are often prone to following the crowd in terms of their behaviour. Dawes was one who was proud of his intelligence and keen to set an appropriate example. The more publicity these types get the more chance we have of others following his lead. I've taught in a couple of "football factory" schools and had have seen the mentality that tends to pervade in these situations. We just need to see and hear more of the Dawes type and less of the Colin Sylvia model.

Merry Christmas to you and yours OD.

I agree with most of what you have said Rev.

As you know I have never been a fan of Dawes ability. I have never said that he did not give 100%.

However I still think that a large percentage are the opposite of Chris Dawes.

I may be damming a few I guess but so be it.

Pat McKenna has yet to play a game for us yet. Lets reserve judgement on that.

I am Carey
I am Brereton and Goodes
And if you watch me play the game
You can't help but get wood(s)

I am flying above the ground
Dragging in a screamer
With three men hanging on
It's not too much
To blind turn and slot through my tenth
I am number one

I am Jessicus
I'm a Demon of course
I can pull big crowds and chicks
With my magnetic force

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
