He finished with the most hit outs with 928 and averaged 42.2 per game and also broke the record for the most hit-outs to advantage in a season with 314. Gawn made a significant contribution to his team's rise up the ladder in 2016 and was recognised by the club at the end of the year with the Norm Smith Memorial Trophy (coaches award) and James McDonald Trophy (heart and spirit award). He really was the barometer for the side. When he was at his best, tapping to advantage and taking contested marks, we won. Has become that important

Amazed that his body was able to hold up the way it did this year.  

Was a totally dominant force it big matches; something we haven't see at the MFC since David Neitz.

He's also more proof that tall timber takes time.

Max is atypical of the modern footballer, and for that we should be greatful. That little kid in the advert shows just how big a cult figure he has become in a season. And a kid dressed as Max gets other kids excited and wanting to see the real thing. And that adds up to young memberships, something the club desperately needs.

Of course a move up the ladder also helps, that's a given, but Max to Jack to Jesse will get 'em through the gates in droves (we hope)!

2016 was the year his knees allowed him to run and jump. When added to his natural height advantage he can be dominant. Glad he's a dee.
